RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What tires are you running?

I had a new set of studded Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice WRT (Load Range E - 265/70/17) put on my 2005 F-250 this winter. They were excellent, with the weight of the camper I hardly ever needed 4x4. I managed to drive on a few un-maintained forestry roads after heavy snow, and while the truck jumped...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West madhatt's 1990 Grandby Project Thread

Opening the camper up for spring, I realized why my front lift panel has deteriorated. It seems there is a leak in my roof, and that the previous owner had attempted to replace the lift panel with compressed paper woodgrain wallboard. It was completly rotten, the middle hinge had ripped out and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cheap, easy fix for a difficult, expensive problem

Mojave Joe, where did you get the hinge for your simple bi-fold replacement panel? My existing springed hinge is shot, and I'm thinking a regular hinge with some plywood should suffice since I lift the roof myself and simply use the panels to keep it up.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West GMC vs Ford -Mechanic Needed

2005 Ford 6.0L Diesel owner here. Truck has 385,000km (293,000mi) on it, completely stock and still running strong. One benefit of my 2005 over the earlier 7.3L models, is the coil sprung front end (improved ride quality and turning radius) and larger brakes.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I am getting another new set of tires.

Anyone have any experience with the Michelin LTX Winter's? I'm considering putting a set of E-Rated 265/70R17 on my F-250. At over $1100 installed, I'd love to hear some good reviews before making the plunge. I was hoping to put taller/skinnier tires on -- but they are hard (impossible) to find...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aux. Fuel Tank with Truck Camper

Does anyone have an auxillary fuel tank installed on their truck, with a camper in the bed? Eventually, I would like to try messing with Waste Vegetable Oil as an alternate fuel source. This will require a secondary heated tank, in my case. Generally, these tanks are made to sit in the truck bed...

I just scored a used Olympian Wave 6 w/ cover and legs for $40. Sweet! I'll be lurking to see where you tapped in. This one says it was made in Spain, must be an older device.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Olympian Wave 3 Heater

I see the Wave 6 on sale for $270, free shipping in the US. That price is almost too good to pass, it says that's 46% off regular. I may need to make a trip down to a mailbox in Washington to pick one of these things up. The price in Canada is about 2x that, yikes! I'm thinking the Wave 6 will...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West CB Radio

I believe most truckers out West are using VHF radios, and not CB. I've been researching a bit about these "bush radios" and will be picking one up soon, so that I can avoid unexpected encounters with heavy industrial traffic. Around here, all the forest service roads have VHF radio frequencies...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Olympian Wave 3 Heater

Has anyone used these while out on a skiing or ice fishing trip, coming back with wet gear, etc. Do they introduce a lot of condensation, I'm concerned it will not help with drying out my boot liners and other wet gear after a day out in the snow.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Auto or Manual transmission with Diesel

I have a 6 speed manual (ZF-6) in my 2005 F-250 6.0L Diesel. It's been great so far, the Low speed has come in handy when crawling through bumpy patches or making steep rough descents. Every vehicle I've ever bought has had a manual transmission. There's a certain gratification that I get out of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Who runs, or has run, their 3 Way Fridge on propane while the truck is moving?

Just ran mine this past weekend while driving on gravel forestry roads, highways, etc. Never went out once, worked like a charm.

I am pretty sure there are no exemptions here -- all tanks under 40lbs require the OPD valve. Re-certification is every 10 years. Luckily there was already some 'pane in my tank, so I was able to use my 3-way fridge this past weekend. Kept my beers cold the whole trip, excellent!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West madhatt's 1990 Grandby Project Thread

I currently have two 2" thick 4x8 sheets of insulating foam under the camper, which raises it enough to clear the cab of my truck. Should I be concerned that the bottom plywood of the camper isn't getting any airflow? It's raised 4" off the truck bed, so it shouldn't be sitting in water anyhow...

I am glad that I jumped on it. The seller had lots of folks interested, the first fellow showed up with a Tundra and the camper wouldn't fit in the box. Luckily the seller was kind enough to hold it for me, so I took the boat rack off my truck, and immediately left for Montana. I ended up...
