RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where do you park your camper?

Drove through Oakland this weekend saw two FWC's sitting on trucks one was in a driveway the other one was parked in an apartment parking lot. If we were living in our SF Condo I would probably leave it on the truck and park on the street. Neighbor around the corner has a F350 dually with a big...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Toyota Tacoma with camper initial research thread

I like lqhikers set up. I've seen a few others doing this approach nicely built steel trailer set up for the added toys and even outside kitchen etc paired with the Tacoma and pop up camper works pretty well from what I can tell. The down side of course is hauling a trailer on the trips where...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Off the Book Options

Always thought I would want a large foredeck hatch installed over the bunk if I had a FWC built. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/lewmar--low-profile-hatches--P024_720_002_506/zoomImages Then rig up a version of this for the hot summer trips...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Outrage!

Many yrs ago we had a RV that ran its generator not kidding from about noon till 8pm several people at 6pm during dinner went over and asked the guy to shut it down. They all were told to take a hike. The next morning at 6am we organized a sun rise base ball game we had about 30 kids and almost...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pineapple Express

HA ha Did that this morning. Didn't make it yesterday and the dog was a complete JERK to everyone yesterday evening. No rain in the Bay Area yet. You know the creek in our back yard never got above 4ft in all that heavy rain we had a few months back. Christmas 2013 we had three days of heavy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thinking about a new truck. What to buy?

Most desert stuff full size works well and if your into serious trail bashing then you just have a beater jeep you flat tow behind your full size pickup. The big gotcha for me is parking lots of places I've been the past few years I'm very happy to have a vehicle I can park in tight spots or the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thinking about a new truck. What to buy?

The rounded corner is the same concept as the rounded door frame on the camper its a much stronger way to do it and you won't have a broken plate or weld at the 90 etc. This is why boat builders have been building hatches with rounded corners for decades.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC camper hunt

For campers and RV's unless your using it lots used is typically a better value given most RV / camper purchases never get used more than once or twice a year. But if your retired or have a job that lets you spend considerable time on the road camping and doing fun stuff then the old used rv or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West June 27th -July 4th! My Christmas gift from my wife.

I was just looking at that. 108 to Bridgeport spend a few days at Trumbull then come back through 120 Yosemite. Hmm We were just in Arnold with some friends a few weeks ago cabin rental first snow trip with the kids. Zero snow and very very minimal at end of 4 at the Ebbits pass closure. Sure...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West June 27th -July 4th! My Christmas gift from my wife.

Wandering - I was debating about Shasta area also. The whole volcano thing and kids is hard to mess up. Though end of June it could be pretty cool up that way still and I've dragged the wife to the cold coast one to many times and she's going to veto camping if I keep doing that.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West June 27th -July 4th! My Christmas gift from my wife.

Short background note. Wife asked what I wanted for Christmas. I said a camping trip!!! Keep in mind we have a almost 3yr old and 5yr old. Zero camping the past few yrs. Ok so I've done lots of coastal stuff and thinking east side of the Sierras. #1 warmer I hope.. Wife has not been a fan of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where to buy an aluminum flat bed?

FWC's new website would suggest that FWC has something in the works regarding either a builder or potential source for flatbeds also. Worth a call or two I bet those guys have it figured out.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scary moment on a casual inspection

The shorter the distance between the camper tie and the truck hard point the lower the stretch and give you have in the physical tie down/turn buckle part. This is one aspect I've always wondered about with campers that have hidden ie short turnbuckle mounts in the bed of the truck given you...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scary moment on a casual inspection

Yes would seem that having some stretch factor to allow for the flexing and impact loading would help reduce the chances of breaking something and better chance that it would stay tight too. With a non stretchy turn buckle set up the shock loads get carried right to the truck bed and camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Scary moment on a casual inspection

I've always wondered about the chain / Metal turn buckle set up. They don't have much in the way of stretch factor so it doesn't take much for them to work loose to the point of dropping out of an eye bolt. Also seems like a locking hook through the eye bolts would add a level of security given...

The ride quality for sure with the new trucks are big steps forward along with the tech aids like stability control and all that stuff. RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thinking about a new truck. What to buy?

Yep lots of great drives where the width and extra length of the full size is just not going to work. Lots of Desert trips work for the full size rigs but just as many places do not. As I said make sure you consider the types of places you like to visit and get the right size rig. Nothing worse...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thinking about a new truck. What to buy?

My only thought is where or what type of places you like to go. I grew up with the full size and alaskan camper type deal. There were places we couldnt go that are places my dad and I really like going to today. Especially with the crazy crowds that can take over easy to access places. I cant...

Ill look pretty sure I have a box of new stock pads. Mine was a 93 with the 4spd, no locker in the rear that was one thing I wish I had. Stock suspension, with 34 inch BFGs. If your replacing the shocks the stock shocks to my surprise were far more beefy than the after market Ranchos, the bottom...
