RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yikes, found water intrusion

Stick a box fan in there for a couple of days. More rain is on the way but move some air through there before it gets moldy. I have found Tilex mold and mildew remover to work quite well if that happens. I always blow, err..I mean, pop my top after every rain. That and the 303 has kept the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Auxiliary Battery Placement

Mine sits in the truck bed, just in front of the wheel well on the right side. I mounted a battery tray to the bed to hold it in place, prior to installing the camper. It's a tight fit, but that space is otherwise unused. This also allows ventilation to the outside. It is charged through the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Christmas dinner in camp.

A 3-4 lb. turkey breast is awesome over the coals. Git some mesquite. Cook it slow and you will drool over the results. Left overs are just as good. Doesn't need much-a bit of seasoning is all that is needed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Air mattress for your truck bed

This is why I bought a camper -- sleeping in the bed of your truck sucks. Yeah, I forgot to add that. Sucks to no end (bad choice of words, perhaps?). That's why the Grandby come to us, back in '05. A shell before that. The bare truck bed before that. Plus...Jeanne was a tad more thin, back...

It is a good idea for those of us who have slept there, too many times... Not cheap, but a bad night sure makes for a bad start in the morning. http://jan.ocregister.com/2010/12/12/making-truck-bed-mattress-took-14-years/50936/

The 303 Aero Protectant (303products.com) is the best. I use it on my old Grandby and it keeps the vinyl soft and supple, just like my wife's...OH-gotta go now. It really is worth the money.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford F250/350 Advice

Thing about a diesel, you'll never sell it. Yup, must be: -The rattle in the morning when it first fires up. -Going up Cajon Pass fully loaded at half throttle. -16-17 MPG. -Little loss of power at higher altitudes. -Significant power mods that can be done are all external to the engine. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Furnace current draw?

Also consider that the bearing grease gets hard/dry on older fan motors. That will draw additional current as it is harder for the motor to turn. There are past threads on re-lubing the bearings. This will also quiet it down a lot! Edit: Oops, I see you already did that...

If you want to head south-Mojave preserve has plenty of open camping, similar desert to Joshua Tree and a bit closer. Kelso train depot has been restored and is worth a visit. Forget Saline-it will be like a zoo. i just had a BBQ'd Turkey breast last night. Marinaded in garlic and teri. Love those.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Bottles

Well, 5 gallons of LPG is not that much compared to diesel we pay for.... I was in AZ last week. Gas was $.50 less/gal than Cali, but diesel was the same price. Lowest was $3.09 while gas was ~$2.55.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Bottles

I too have a bulk 250 gal. tank. Current price is $2.75 gal. Was in Flagstaff last week, they pay around $2.25-2.50. Was told that in Nevada it is more than 3.25. Course, it varies between summer/winter. For small tanks, try welding supply shops as they tend to be lower than the corner gas...

This is what's going on in my neck of the woods. I have known this girl for about 20 years as she is a neighbor of one of my desert buddies, out in a remote area. She is & has always been a really nutty case. Talks to herself and stands outside of her house and screams to the desert. She has...

Yup. LPG weighs 4.25 pounds/gallon. The empty tank weight (tare weight or TW) is stamped on the tank collar. A bathroom scale and a little calculation will tell you how much propane is in the tank.

Desert Rancher...could you please provide some details of your switch between the camper and truck batteries? Where did you get the switch? How did you wire it in? I have a 50 watt Siemans panel that is connected to a Morningstar SS-6 controller (cheap 6 Amp). The output of the solar...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West question about surepower/solar

The truck will charge the battery while it is running. The solar controller will also charge & maintain the battery. It will shut itself off when the battery reaches the proper voltage, so it won't be charging while the truck is running as it will sense that the battery voltage is ok. I have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Never look at new trucks!

New trucks come with a new set of baggage. Diesels require DEF (diesel exhaust fluid), which is basically pee. Run out of that and it goes into limp mode. The DPF (diesel particulate filter) has to re-gen often, which burns a bunch of fuel and runs poorly. Also, the TPMS (tire pressure...
