RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West LIVING in the Owens Valley/Sierra East?

I'd tend to think living in NV (assuming you liked your home there) would be worth it from the taxation perspective of things verse CA. Property taxes are high there to help make up the for the income tax. Here is a listing for CA, AZ & NV.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help me choose a functional budget truck.

Be advised, as soon as you start out with the "basic" camper shell concept-you will wish you had more... A 3/4 ton truck will leave you the capacity for future options. A 1/2 ton will limit your choices.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to carry second spare tire?

Ok, forgive my ignorance.... Where does one find wheel studs and are they different for different trucks? Lug nuts are probably easy. Is there a standard size for the studs/bolts for the lug nuts or are they all different. Seems so simple but could be so complex. dave Nuts depend on the...

Installed a new battery in the camper. Using a flashlight and poor eyesight can lead to wiring errors. But, I knew when everything worked except the florescent light that "polarity" might be a clue. I just could not believe that I could do mix up two wires.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to carry second spare tire?

I have no experience with the Safety Seal kit, but it looks very rugged. Question... do they work well on gash type punctures? Would they work on a sidewall gash / slash?? I know the Camel rope type plugs will fill an irregular hole. As stated, you just shove as many as it takes to stop (or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to carry second spare tire?

Those that are having tire failures and multi tire flats, have they been with the BFG All Terrians??? I always ran BFG A/T's on my Power Wagon and plenty of punctures. mostly sharp rocks or a nasty creosote stump. Sidewall punctures can easily happen on any radial tire. You just shove as many...

Damn, I just ordered a front mount receiver. Less that $85 for a Curt hitch, shipped. Guess I always needed one.... (and I don't even have a 2nd spare) This dang site costs me money I don't have.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to carry second spare tire?

Not the answer to your question...but a good plug kit is much easier to use than changing to a spare. Most punctures are usually small and easily plugged. Like I said, it's easier to plug and air up than to change. I've had sidewall punctures where I've stuffed a handful of plugs to keep...

In your case I would opt for an outdoor car canopy such as: http://www.acecanopy.com/carcanopy.html You want to keep the rain off of it. Also, it's very important to raise the top and air it out frequently!! Watch for mildew in the corners. I've had good success with Tilex mildew remover.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Is This Heresy?

I saw one at California speedway last weekend (Nascar infield). Very clever arrangement. Seems like you would need to pay attention to the weight distribution, a sort of balancing act. What is the weight cap?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cutting down older models to fit newer trucks

What truck are you planning to put this on? I guess I got lucky. Had an old Grandby in very good shape, but my old Power Wagon was not. Looked for the latest model truck that the camper would fit on and wound up with one of the best and very aFordable trucks out there. Hope it works out for you.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What year is this FWC

I have an '86 Grandby and it looks exactly like that. Yes that is a furnace vent. Also, I found a dymo label under the reefer door that had the s/n and date on it: mfg. 6/25/86, s/n 703-CA. Good luck, but I don't think you will really want to try and cut it...

I have had a very similar set-up for years. Works great. Only downside is when you walk around the back of your truck in the dark and catch that thing on your shin bone. Then you will dance around like a one-legged hooligan in an ass kicking contest....
