RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Suspension :: Airbags vs Helper Springs

Your truck is going to be overloaded but you all ready know that. IBTDT and it is not every enjoyable when you think about all the consequences doing so. I wanted a new Tundra but it just isn't rated for my purpose either.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford 150 with greater payload

I had a Hawk shell( 695 lbs.) on my '03 Tundra. It weighed nearly 1100 lbs. with options, I was alway running at max. GVW carrying 1400 lbs. fully loaded. No problems other than a one time blown an air bag and shock. I am now looking at a new truck and camper. I am leaning heavily toward a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Could you please talk me into (or out of) buying a new Power Wagon?

My heavily optioned Hawk shell weighed 1050 Lbs. and loaded with my gear was 1400/1500 on my 1st gen Tundra. I wouldn't be concerned with a PW and some overload assist. Much beefier than my rig and I put a lot of offroad miles on it. I had bags and cradles on my Tundra and didn't like them. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 1st gen Tundra questions?

I had the same experiences with bags. Installed Roadmaster Active Suspension and had zero problems. Not a bag fan because of the experienced failures.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yellowstone to Portland Need to find some adventure

It's an interesting route because of the wide openness, not a lot of anything but long vista's. I drove it west to east about 5 years ago in Tacoma 2wd pre-runner.The road was mostly a wet(muddy) slipe and slide. I had to keep the speed up and really had me white knuckling most of the way. Fun...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yellowstone to Portland Need to find some adventure

Look at paralleling south of I-90 interstate on the state routes. You can work your way across northern Idaho, South Valley road (100 miles of dirt) past Red Rock Lakes and Lima L. or southern Montana and the mining towns on pavement. There's so much to see you don't really need anyone telling...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ID-MT-WY?: Desert Rat Venturing Outside His Comfort Zone Seeks Input

Big With D/S motorcycle riders. Much more interesting drives in ID,MT, NE OR. Travel on most any road following a river and you'll see more interesting things. I've traveled all over the PNW back roads and Magruder is a novelty thing and not very scenic. Hwy 95 north of Boise to Canada, a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West don't buy this folding step

My used Hawk came with one of the above and it had a cracked lower step. Cracked more with my use, so I junked it. That's why I ended up with the one that started this post. I now know of two I wouldn't recommend.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West don't buy this folding step

I've found few steps designed for slide-in campers. None were standouts. I'm thinking the slide-in camper industry should joint venture a bold new step design. One that works so well with their product and is priced so appealing it makes out sourcing a step, dangerous, un-necessary. FYI, my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West don't buy this folding step

I've had this folding step for about a year with no problems until my foot went right through the top step. 300 lb. weight limit and I weigh 230. Yes, I was exiting my camper. It was an ugly fall and I was very lucky to only have sprained my wrist.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West to regear or supercharger?

You have a compounded problem. The added weight and sand driving will be greatly helped with HP and Torque. Add the supercharger and loose the 33" tires too. Add tire width not tire height.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Hawk and Big plans...need some help ;)

Spokane was my travel hub for 24 years. I'd suggest heading east from Bend. Hwy 26 and Hwy7 to Baker. Out of Baker take Hwy 86 and cross the Snake to Hwy. 95. Go North, lot's to see and great camping on 95, McCall/Payette Lk., Rigging and the Snake R. Canyon and the LOLO hwy 12(famous) . Another...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West where should you live test

I don't get the connection between those two locations. Polebridge is just a general store really. A place to go to from someplace like Reno. All my locations where major cities. Suites me because I like a major hub to explore from. Being retired that's mostly what I do..yin & yang...

If you want the roads less traveled, Stay out of crossing N.Y. Take NF 261 into Yellowstone. Then S.E. thru Dubois on 287/26 to Riverton and up through the Bighorn N.F. Central Wyo. is less traveled. Marty Stouffer filmed a lot of "Wild America" in the Bighorn N.F. Beautiful and quiet. Cody...
