RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hitch mounted Ski Rack

Similar to what I used to use. I assume you will be carrying your skis in a ski bag. One issue to think about is not using a ski bag with a zipper. When the bag is encased in ice from traveling it can take a while to thaw the zipper out to get at your skis to go skiing. I made a ski bag that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fly Fishing......................

the Jensens are great. They do a great job on their video's. Been winter dry fly fishing here in Idaho and it has been good. In late December there was the thickest midge hatch I think I have ever seen and there were an amazing number of fish rising. Almost got tired of catching nice fish on #20...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Letort Hopper

KG is so great with his carrying on. Thanks for posting, I had just tied up some Pink chubbies, but now need to tie some traditional Letort Hoppers to compensate!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof Struts

We use the speaker stand to lift our roof on our Ocelot (no solar, but usually boat(s) and/or a rocket box). Way easier than muscling it up and it just is laid on the floor so easy to get to.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Time to move on......First day of winter

RE: Climate normal post. In the northern Rockies, the last time they did this, the "new normal" for snow pack was reduced around 5 - 10% for the new normal from the previous normal. Also, we have been using shorter time periods for running our fire danger and fire behavior models since the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Door Lock Options

Interesting. We have had our Ocelot on full time for over 100K miles and seven years - lot's of dusty roads in our rural community (plus lot's of dusty roads on trips) and never a problem. I do use some WD40 and winter anti-freeze, but that has been it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do you use water tank for drinking water?

Thanks smlobx. I assume you use it on the fill hose side and it doesn't impede the fill flow rate too much?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do you use water tank for drinking water?

This brings up another question. Does anyone use an inline filter either on the fill hose for the tank or between the tank and the water pump. For years we have used a backpacking filter when on long trips we end up with some poor tasting water. But for the new build, I am thinking of using a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Covid Vaccine -- Have you got yours?

Done with the second shot. Started feeling achy at 18 hours after, but one ibu pretty much took care of that. Another at 24 hours also needed. Felt achy and tired last night at 28 hours out, but another ibu helped. Some of the other folks who are 15 - 25 years younger than I am (other FFTR's)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Covid Vaccine -- Have you got yours?

18 hours out from my second shot and just a sore arm - good so far. First shingles vacc laid me out for 1.5 days so this is much better. I am lucky to get in early as a first responder, my wife will likely be waiting till April or later at the rate ID is going.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West First Gen tundra airbags and airbag spacers (articulation)

I agree with JHanson - although on our 05 Tundra with a full time ATC Ocelot on it we have just used Air bags and a Hellwig sway bar for 102K miles with no issues. And we have taken it some fairly rough 4x4 roads, but I drive slowly and at times use a spotter for exact placement of wheels. That...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Cast Iron Experimentation

Wandering that was a good one(s). I will never look at a beefsteak tomato or onion the same now! I have been using our cast iron DO in the oven for a series of mexican dishes - enchiladas, layered torts (enchiladas essentially) and some antelope concoctions. Keep up the cooking!

Thanks for answering the question! Have been to Stillwater once and want to go back when there is more water in the ponds.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Altimeter watches

GPS Altimeter has lot's of options for measuring - plus you can get NAIP imagery too. The ads get annoying if you do not pay for the Pro version. Caltopo is good too, you can load many layers and it has some road features for FS lands that I have not found anywhere else. It really has some cool...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Altimeter watches

I gave up on the altimeter watches - all too expensive for me. Either use Gaia or an app now. Way cheaper

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dixie Valley Nevada - February 2021

Another NV valley to explore. Drove up through Luna and Gabbs on the way home from fires in CA last fall. Nice country all through there. Thanks for the trip report!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My $100 Skamper build

Nice rebuild - probably spent $95.00 too much for it though! Looks great considering what you started with - so nice to see something that would have been in the dump get rebuilt. Doing something similar with a 30 year old wooden skiff I picked up a couple of years ago. Learning woodworking!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Couldn't stop going down hill in snow.

Don't mistake "snow" for ice. Depending on the temperature and what the base is under the snow, you might be driving more on an ice/water layer than what you are thinking of as snow. Ice/water transition is what lubricates skis - which is one reason why very cold snow is so sticky. well studded...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Covid Vaccine -- Have you got yours?

I am lucky being in fire, so got my first shot. Bit of sore arm, but not other side effects. Shingles vaccination was much more feeling like I had a bad flue. Many volunteers helping with the logistics/scheduling/checking up on folks. Many thanks to those who are making it happen!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alabama Hills Management Plan

Yep - been needed for a long time. Think the first time I stayed there and did some climbing was about 1983 or 84. Don't spend time there anymore. Still a beautiful area, just camp in more out of the way places.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Two week quarantines in CA, OR, WA - no recreation travel

Remember that most of the vaccines require two shots, a few weeks apart and for a body to reach a few weeks after to reach immunity. You all may be aware of this, but I have been surprised by how many folks I work with do not know this basic information.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Dripping off Roof

This type of stick on RV gutter has been on our ATC for seven years - no sign of it falling off yet. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rubber+drip+rail&language=en_US&linkCode=sl2&linkId=38a278f8d76a6434db5251dfd59ad0e5&tag=rvstoredirect-20&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck camping at ski resorts in the Pacific Northwest/British Columbia

Different areas are managing COVID-19 issues in different ways - best to check and it will likely change over the winter. Seems like many areas are not using lifts at full capacity so lines are longer. Ticket sales are limited too. Will still be a ski season, just different. we are completely...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West propex heater, looking for vents?

I just made a "vent" cover from some aluminum sheeting that attaches to the plywood. Used a bit of engine gasket sealer around the edge of the wood just in case the outlet got hot. Have had it installed for seven years with no issues. The inlet and outlet tubes on our Ocelot go out the plywood...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another new Outfitter Caribou 6.5 Lite

Note: I have been looking at a Caribou Lite 8 and did ask Scott about installing a Propex which he is not willing to do. You might be able have them not install the furnace and do your own install of a Propex. One question on the interior - it appears they use vinyl to cover the interior walls -...
