RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping south of 94 in Montana

the Boulder River is a nice place. East Rosebud over by Red Lodge is a good place too. Maybe a bit of a farther drive than you want however.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Building a Thinsulate thermal pack

Nice work! I did not think about thinsulate when building my thermal pack. One thing I did do with my version is to make it into individual sections so that when we camp where the liner top builds up condensation, it is easy to separate the panels (velcro is used to keep the panels in one piece)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2018 Botswana Overland Expedition

Having had the opportunity about 10 years ago to join my wife who was doing some wild dog research in Botswana, I can recall some great memories of tearing around the bush in similar rigs (or full on Defenders that are real brush rigs). After that trip, I tell everyone, "you have to go to Africa...

Easy to make your own online with a decent photo or drawing. Likely just cropping the one you have will work.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best type of rug for camper?

yep, whatever is cheap, since they get hammered. We also use the "Astroturf" pieces that you can find in hardware stores. Works great as a bootcleaner and easy to spray off with the hose.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newbie With Tire Question

Welcome. I have an 05 Tundra with Ocelot - that I built out with cabinets, furnace and such. I ran Michelin AT's with no problem for 60K miles on highway, 2WD and 4WD roads throughout the west. Just switched to BFG KO2's for better sidewall protection in mind. A bit noisier (but not...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Floor mat, fly rod holder, and Owyhee Canyonlands

We use on of the foam mats from Costco for kitchen use. They last a long time, plus we have a couple of other thin throw rug pieces that are easy to clean. Ditto on the fake astroturf - I bolt it onto the custom step I had made and it helps to clean the mud and dirt off the shoes and dog paws...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding Water Tank Question-- Can I do it without a pump?

We use 2.5 or 5 gallon jugs on the counter. Have also used a Whale pump fitted on the jugs which works if you want to leave the 5 gln on the floor. Never have seen the need for a powered water system since we use the camper in low temps - don't want to mess with trying to keep it from freezing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Securing the contents

If you want to truly secure items, any kind of cage needs to be bolted to the vehicle. Having outfitted several vehicles used on roads from highways to rough 4x4 roads, even an item weighing a few pounds will knock out any type of restraining device that is not firmly attached to the vehicle.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hitch bicycle rack suggestions

We use a step extender for the 2" hitch. Keeps the bikes away from the camper and works as a step into the camper. Actually I am having it modified right now to make it a carrier. Bolted together a prototype we used for a couple of years and having the local welder fabricate it now.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Am I out of luck with 1,200 lbs of payload?

The other comments are on. If you go with an ATC shell and build it out for weight and what you want, it should work. Our Ocelot works well on our 05 Tundra. Stove, Propex furnace, dinette, bed, full complement of drawers. No idea what it weighs, but the Tundra goes up and down Teton Pass ...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Frozen weather, frozen stuff. Is it still functional?

I would be careful using your bear spray for "practice". If you do want to try this, make sure you shoot it downwind (and not a strong wind due to eddies) and not anywhere it will impact people or animals ('sides bears or charging moose). If you have not been around it, it when discharged, it is...
