RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West CA Bay Area - CO and back, with a twist

If you are heading up from CO to the Tetons, look at going over South Pass and spend some time along the Sweetwater River and the south end of the Wind Rivers (if you like to hike) Big Sandy or Scab Creek. Going to the Upper Green River above Pinedale to the end of the road is beautiful, good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West High winds, any problems?

Always interesting to hear about campers going down the road while popped up. I guess I could imagine me doing that sometime, but luckily many years of working around helicopters and fires has ingrained checklists so deeply in me that I feel nervous if I don't do a walk around and check the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yakima Swingdaddy Hitch Mounted Bike Rack

Have the same bike rack and have used this anti-rattle hitch pin for years: https://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Anti-Rattle/Curt/C22321.html?feed=npn&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3pHDiK7n3wIV5B-tBh2-lgUpEAQYAyABEgLzuPD_BwE But I would like to see the setup olebondo uses too. Might be even cheaper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Compare Alaskan to ATC/FWC

Klahanie: Thanks for the post. We are looking for an 8' CO and will be putting it on a 3/4 ton 4x4 - I have modified two different trucks for carrying payload and am comfortable with those mods. The shower is not a big deal for us, we use an outside shower and if it's cold, find hostels or hot...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Compare Alaskan to ATC/FWC

Wow! thanks for all the thoughtful comments. I was wondering if I would get one. Many good thoughts about both types. I tend not to go on too rough of roads, but some 4x4 is fine, so not sure that would limit us much more. The weight is a big thing which is why I like the ATC setup. Having the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Compare Alaskan to ATC/FWC

I am curious to see if there are any folks out there who have had an Alaskan and an ATC or FWC and what they see as the advantages/disadvantages - or just general thoughts. Currently have and ATC Ocelot but looking at switching to Alaskan when we go to more full time traveling. Thanks!

I just ran mine alongside the camper within the cargo box. Exhaust is similar to Vics. Has been working fine for five years.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Power Roof Rack; Has Anyone Tried This Yet?

Sounds like a good idea actually. Here is something that I was thinking about for loading boats: https://boatloader.com/ But being able to lift a rack with panels and a rocket box on it sounds like a much better idea. Or Vic's thought on lifting the whole top with the regular rack. Looking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Solar Panel Failure

A friend has had two panel failures with this model: HQST 100 Watt 12V Monocrystalline Lightweight Solar Panel for RV/Boat/ Other Off Grid Applications Does anyone have any experience with this type or any recommendations for something to use beside this one? I don't run solar, so not sure if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Eagle Shell buildout

Looks really nice. i did a similar cabinet build, used 3/4" for the cabinets but realize now should have gone thinner for the cabinet faces, but the red oak I used looks good. The Propex furnace should be great, that is what we put in. I really like the Thru-Hull fitting, that should work really...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Collapsible sides durability

I use 303. Have a couple of pin holes, used Aquaseal to close them up (what I had around). We carry boats and a Yakima Rocketbox, so weight might be an issue. but with the number of miles we have put on, not surprised. The material is very easy to patch.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DeLorme CD mapping

ONXMaps claims to extensive maps for many states. I have used the chips in my GPS for hunting and they are good for land ownership. Once you buy them, it is about $30.00/year for updates, but I don't update every year. I am thinking of getting an iPad for this kind of coverage - works whether...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Montana trip planning

Foy: There are a couple of nice campsites on either side of the road just north of Black Butte. The hike up the Butte is not bad, rocky, but we have taken our Lab up there. Depends on what you are used too. There are also some nice campsites going down Burnt Creek heading towards the Ruby River...

Great trip report. Been planning for that trip in 2021 - the summer I retire. But we were going to paddle on the Mackenzie from Inuvik to Tuk. Might just have to drive it now! Thanks for the report!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West TC Insurance questions, my current provider, USAA, is not doing a good job

We use USAA for everything - except camper insurance. They don't do that as you have found out. We have Progressive just for our camper. Less than $100/yr.
