RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Using tow/haul mode with lighter campers

2021 Tundra with ATC Cougar camper. i use the tow/haul on long grades over passes, but that is really about it. it certainly does help with the power for pulling a long grade.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Inspirational Saying of the Day

here is one of my favorite Frank Zappa: “The universe consists of 5% protons, 5% neutrons, 5% electrons and 85% morons.” — Frank Zappa ok maybe not inspirational, but funny

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Whats a good portable propane camp stove?

we use an old coleman 2 burner stove - it simmers well and if we really need to tone it down use a heat diffuser ($10 online or usually $2 at the second hand store). we just bought a one burner coleman which seems to not simmer as well, but the heat diffuser takes care of that. it packs much...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best All Terrain Tire for Snow

well, tires do make a difference but weight also helps. Had KO2's and Michelin ATX LT on our 05 tundra with ATC camper on it and drove Teton Pass on a regular basis with no traction issues. But the KO2's wore out in 30K miles and the Michelins went almost 70K with no flats or issues.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Are load range E tires really needed for camper?

i have punched holes directly through tread with E rated tires without a camper and not even driving that fast. They will help, but much depends on the native surface you are driving on, how worn your tires, your speed and chance. I have also driven about 130,000 miles on E rated tires with two...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

Have done 420 in our 21 Tundra and only put in 32 gallons. so theoretically could go further, but that was far enough!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Jerry Cans - The secret Weapon

Good discussion and film. Since our 21 Tundra came stock with a 38 gallon tank, we can go for a long ways and not have to carry extra gas. Don't miss having to do worry about that anymore.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Traveling With A BIG Dog

Agree with strapping down the crates in the camper - maybe look at some T track install for tie-downs. Many bird hunters carry dogs in the back of the truck, but the best make sure the crates are secured.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West $1000 Rods? An opinion

Same thing I have heard from other industry types. Likely does lead to folks not caring about how rods are treated when it only costs $50 or so to have a brand new rod sent. I have used the Orvis replacement three times - twice when an anchor rope caught a poorly placed rod and once when as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Death Valley National Park - February 2023

Yes, that was an interesting conversation with that PT. Having also been through knee replacement, a mile or two was a minimum during later recovery. Maybe a difference in being in a mountain town with lot's of aging athletes!

yep - I use this site a lot and have visited several of the little known wilderness areas in western AZ. don't see too many folks once you get into them for sure.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Diesel Heater in Your Camper?

A friend just installed one on his Ford Transit build. One issue is having to extend the dip tube in the fuel tank since the one that Ford has as OEM is goes only about 1/2 into the tank. Not a deal killer, but something to check if you do install

Thanks for the review. We just got our GoTreads and since the are to do double duty as traction devices and leveling blocks I am appreciative of your note that the work well for traction.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The Supertramp Camper

Some good things on this, but if it does go for $60K that is what we spent on a 21 Tundra and a new ATC Cougar. But folks seem to not mind spending money on stuff like this. Weight with the roof lifting mechanism is another issue I think.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Overloaded

seems to be a trend of folks insisting on putting full size campers on short bed trucks and then having issues. I also wonder how fast some folks drive on rough roads with campers and eventually have serious structural failures of either the truck or camper. Also reminds me of a post on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propex HS2000 vs HS2800 in a Hawk Camper

Have run the HS2000 in both the campers we have had. Currently have it in a ATC Cougar (8' by 84") and it heats it up just fine in sub freezing temps. Do have a homemade Arctic Pack, but all other insulation is stock. Looked at the 2800 but the size and BTUs seemed too much for this size camper.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Building an Arctic - Cold Weather Pack

we used 105 gram thinsulate and layered it with a nylon taffeta coated material. folds down fine with the top down, gives good insulation and does not absorb condensation. easy to take down and clean. does take some sewing ability - or at least patience with lot's of needle to hold it together...
