A stormy evening caused a great sunset near Banff township in Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Rained hard at our campground, sounded like sleeping in a tin drum.

Cape Blanco historic lighthouse, Oregon coast. One of only a couple on the west coast you can visit and go up inside. The tour guide wears late 19th century period-accurate uniform for a lighthouse keeper, and really gets into explaining the role of that position. Shown alongside the original...

South Falls at Silver Falls State Park, near Salem, Oregon. There are 10 falls on about an 8-mile circuit path. We didn't have time to walk it, and only saw three there. Smokiest campground we encountered... people who burn pine... well... shouldn't.

Today we booked reservations on the Fort Pickens campground in the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Right across the bay from Pensacola, but several LONG bridges apart. Will definitely curtail my drinking at my brother's remembrance get-together.

I guess I need a Flickr account or something... took a lot of pictures, but don't see how to upload more than the 500k on the very first post of a thread. Pretty dumb for a guy that used to be an IT and web guy, huh?

Stayed 5 nights at the Chewing Blackbones campground near Babb, MT, tribal land run by Blackfeet Indians. Great people, had almost the entire place to ourselves - it was previously only used for tribal functions, then fell into disrepair and was closed, but after 4 years they're reopening it and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West North Cascades Natl Park visit - 2013

One of our several trips last year: about 3 weeks spent going to, staying in, driving around, and coming home from North Cascades National Park. Also stopped by Mt. Rainier NP, but it was disappointingly mobbed and had several camping areas closed due to federal funding sequesters. As always...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West suggestion for Four Wheel Camper owners

We use 3" ThermaRest pads in the sleeping compartment, pulled out the couch and passenger side cabinets. No cushions carried at all. Now we have tons of extra floor space AND lighter weight. We use folding camp chairs for sitting, reading and eating inside, but usually use a table at a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Traveling with bed pulled out - mattress solution

We pulled the cushions and use 3" ThermaRest self-inflating camping pads in our 2011 Hawk. 25" wide, I believe... Two of those side-by-side fills the queen size space and stack easily under the dropped top with room to spare. We use a 1/2" thick yoga mat to level the sleeping surface that slides...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Couch modification

Last year we really got to hating the cushion tossing/lid lifting to get to anything stowed below the couch, so on a whim for a three week trip, I pulled the passenger-side cabinet and couch out altogether. We love how much extra floor-space and room we have inside now as opposed to a narrow...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West F150 FX4 EcoBoost

Been a while since I visited, thought I'd add comments to this. We put a moderately equipped Hawk on a 2012 F150 with the 5.0L gas engine. Bought the truck before I really decided on the camper (was looking into a travel trailer at the time) or might have gone with a 3/4 t. Reading all these...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West making early plans

Guys, one thing I've noted about Red Lodge in the summer over the past few years is that it's frequently jammed with motorcyclists - I'm talking sometimes miniature Sturgis jammed if there's a rally, wall-to-wall with no parking nowhere jammed. And the roads to and from Yellerstone from there...
