RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Steel plates for bed of 2005-2012 Toyota Tacoma

Hey everyone - this is the way to go with a newer Tacoma. I made my own with the help pf a friend (a student in Sculpture) and they work just as well as the FWC units. All of the other ideas for dealing with the composite bed don't hold a candle to this system. That's my frank opinion anyway...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Awning?

Hey folks, Due to a boat ladder I have attached to the right side (so I can climb up to my roof platform - to photograph), I have no room for an awning. So I'm thinking about one for the back and looking for ideas. I saw the post with the SUV rear compartment cover, but I'd like something...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tore Out Mounting Tiedown on Camper

Hi - I have a 2012 Tacoma and was told by Stan that we can't bolt the camper down due to the composite bed material, so he suggested these (see below):but I made a set with the help of a grad student in our sculpture dept. I teach at LSU, Baton Rouge, and I paid him handsomely but at 1/4 the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Black out the windows . . .

Yeah - I had to switch to Ilford HP-5 in 5x7. Need to run some tests, however. Tom Film is not dead, but Kodak film is. If anything film is making a comeback (from the dead) for large format photographers.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Black out the windows . . .

Hadley - thanks for the Harrison tip. I've never seen one of those; nice, I suspect, but a bit too pricey for my liking. I've owned a "done" type changing room for about 20 yrs. and I use it when there is no other option, but dust has always been a problem. I like the solution in the link...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Black out the windows . . .

Hello to the large format photographers out there, I need to black out the camper windows (at night time) to prevent camp ground lights, moon light, etc., from entering so I can remove exposed film from holders, and then reload. Has anyone done this and if so, what material was used and how was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A nice FWC plug from a great photographer

Hi Guys, I too am a photographer with 43 years of practice using large format (5x7 inch) film cameras in B&W. I've also taught photography for 33 years, primarily at LSU, Baton Rouge. I bought my Ranger shell to use for the same purpose as Mr. Shaw, while on a sabbatical leave from my teaching...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Frame to lift camper. . .

Hi Everyone, Like so many of us who acquire older campers to mount in newer trucks, I too must make a 1 1/2 inch high frame to sit the camper on so it clears the side rails of my 2012 Tacoma; similar to this one...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Wave 3 in Hawk

Hey there Ski3pin - would you be so kind as to send some interior photos of your Ranger to tnscoots@cox.net? I'm currently refurbishing my '98 Shell, and it looks like some of your ideas would work for me. Many thanks, tnscoots

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Wave 3 in Hawk

This is how I mounted a Wave 3 in our old ranger II, not a Hawk but perhaps this can add some ideas. I originally mounted the heater on three screws hooking to the factory mount holes on the back of the unit. After using the Wave 3 on a few trips and discovering firsthand how directional the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Super Springs on EBay

Hello All - I just won a set of Super Springs for my 2012 Tacoma for $200 + free shipping. What a deal, no? So with those and the Rancho RS700MT shocks that arrived yesterday, I should be OK with my Ranger Shell. Do ya'll agree? I'm not messing with the front end nor am I upgrading tires; just...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New roof lifting struts installed on 2009 Hawk

Hi - would you mind telling me the exact struts you purchased? I don't know what length or weight would be best and I will have a substantial roof platform mounted, that I'll photograph from. thanks man! tnscoots

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New roof lifting struts installed on 2009 Hawk

Both the front and rear lift much easier and they both come down slowly and softly. I do have a the FWC larger solar panel on the front of my Hawk as well. To lift the back I sit on the couch and just push up. Used to have to put a shoulder under it and struggle. Hated putting it down. I laugh...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Floor rot

tnscoots, I can't help right now but I'm about to tackle a similar problem. My plywood over the bed rails on the driver's side is rotting. This is due to the water tank filler up on that side of the camper. When full, water runs out the vent, down the side, and along the interface underneath...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Floor rot

Hi - Has anyone worked on the "floor pack" to replace rotten floor board? If so, I'd appreciate any info you could share. Due to soft spots in the floor and even the wood that sits over the truck bed rails, I wonder about rebuilding all the wooden structure under my '98 FWC Ranger Shell, or just...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West air conditioner?

Hello Stan and all you folks, I was digging in the forum about ways to mount an AC unit and saw several options, like making an adapter for the side window; but with that I wonder about excess drag. What I really want, however, is to mount in back, but I don't know what the frame is like back...
