Pretty sure that's a Nissan...which could explain its crippling.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

I tried a few retailers. One, an online bumper store does not charge shipping or tax but didn't know the product well and I was concerned they'd get it wrong. Issues like bumper extension brackets (req'd for mine), and clearance issues with the camper jacks. Obviously I could work direct with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

Very informative Adv. No doubt Aluminess makes a great product, I simply decided against it for the inconvenience issues noted above and the cost. Further customizing the bumper and/or moto hauler adds $ to a project that exceeds the cost benefit ratio for me considering I'm at approx $3700...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

Good points Ronin. I'd have your guy fab me one up for that price any day. If he's looking for a Ram bumper project I could give him one. With the extension brackets, galley box and holes for back-up sensors I was looking at just south of $4000; way too much for what I see as spare tire...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

Too many negatives for me not to mention the cost. The other hang up for me is hauling a moto on a hitch carrier and not being to access the camper unless the moto is unloaded. Think I'll opt for a hitch gate spare holder. Thanks for your input.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

Thanks. ^^ Having to take the swing arms and boxes off every time the camper goes on and off may be a deal breaker for me.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Aluminess rear w/ FWC Hawk on Ram 2500 clearance questions

I have a 16 Ram 2500 with a FWC Hawk and I'm considering buying a Aluminess rear bumper with spare carrier and boxes but am concerned about the clearance of the camper jacks and install/removal of camper with the swing gates on the bumper. I currently have about 1" on either side from my fender...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Carrying moto fuel with camper (no trailer)

Nice set up. Interested, how much clearance is there between the galley box on the Aluminess and the bars of your moto when loading? I'm intrigued in this combination (Aluminess and Versahauler moto-carrier) but can't see how one would load a moto when the galley box (which I would opt for)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hawks Side dinette and adult sleeping room

I have a Hawk w/ the side dinette option. I personally sleep there (I'm 6'0) when stealth camping as someone else mentioned and have shared many nights with friends, me taking the kings quarters up top and them on the side dinette. Guess it's just me but I have not seen any problems with this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Carrying moto fuel with camper (no trailer)

Thanks for the input. A Versahauler is just a hitch mounted moto-carrier, I linked a photo in my original post. I too thought the idea of fabricating something in between the receiver and where the moto mounts aft of the bumper, on the track as ntsqd suggested but that area may be utilized by...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Carrying moto fuel with camper (no trailer)

Looking for ideas on where to stow a few 5 gallon moto-style fuel jugs (like these: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1483/i/scribner-plastics-spacesaver-utility-jugs ) on my truck. I've got a Ram 2500 with a FWC Hawk camper and a Versahauler motorcycle hitch carrier...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ram trucks, payload, suspension, and off-road ability

From what I know, yes, the airbags are for load stability vs. payload capacity. I've played with pressures and have noticed some difference when the camper is on. Re. airbags, since the springs I added to my truck were longer travel I used Daystar cradles with the airbags in the rear. In this...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ram trucks, payload, suspension, and off-road ability

Nice truck. Interested to hear your gas mileage with camper. I removed the previously mentioned restrictive exhaust components on my '16 CTD and recently averaged 17.5mpgs on over 7k miles with the camper on. I did add aftermarket coils to my 2500 but not for payload purposes which depending...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ram trucks, payload, suspension, and off-road ability

I've owned rear leaf and the current rear coil link Ram 2500 trucks, both diesels. My 2011 had Carli suspension components and Bilsteins to include an upgraded rear leaf, my current 2015 has Thuren parts. Do your own research but manufacturers GVW ratings can be vague and not a true indicator...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2015 Ram Back Up Camera

This is what I did on my Ram 2500. Drilled a 7/8 and 2 small holes for mounting just left of the license plate. Once the camera and harness was removed from my tailgate I installed a rubber grommet around the camera head for stability and appearance. Put 2 small spacers to cover the gap...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC camper, wind fairing suggestions

To keep this on track... My original post was a question about the effectiveness of a wind fairing and how much aerodynamics plays a role on fuel economy with truck campers...at least that was my intent. I realize that speeds plays a role in fuel economy, this is the case with any vehicle. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC camper, wind fairing suggestions

Seems to be the school of thought here but I'm not completely sold on it being only a weight thing. Our diesels shouldn't be as affected by weight as gas motors. I've taken numerous (pre camper) 1-2 week moto trips with 1 buddy, gear, gas and bikes, etc which could be comparable in weight to...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC camper, wind fairing suggestions

Thanks for the replies. Interesting that there's no mpg difference observed. I don't have an issue with wind noise and have less of a gap than Cayuse on the Tundra. Maybe I'll suck it up and hope diesel prices don't get to years past highs.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New FWC camper, wind fairing suggestions

Picked up my FWC Hawk shell (from American RV Company, great service from Jeff and Clint) in Portland OR. Averaged about 19 mpg's on the way down and 15 mpg's returning with the camper. The truck is a 4WD 2500 Ram diesel. I can't imagine the decrease in economy has as much to do with the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West tailgate as storage platform?

I've yet to pick up the FWC Hawk shell for my 2011 Dodge 2500 so I could be off here but what about the option of leaving the tailgate on (folded down) for increased storage space? It's a standard length bed and I'm not sure how much flat space I'd gain by leaving the tailgate on (distance from...
