RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dogs can open emergency exit on my Hawk

I was concerned about this with our lab who always rides in the camper. I secured the latch with a twisted loop of bailing wire that is easy enough to remove quickly if needed. Six years now and never had a problem. So glad your dog is OK and back home.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Off Road Tire Pressure - How Low Do You Go?

I've gone as low as 20 psi in deep fine sand in AZ. At 25 psi we were stuck, dropping to 20 we drove out no problem and then aired up. I usually run 40-45 psi on pavement.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll drive the car and get a room in Vacaville or somewhere so I can get into Palo Alto by 10am.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camping between Reno and Palo Alto

I need to travel to the Stanford Medical Center for an appointment on Friday and plan to take the truck and camper. We've made the round trip several times in one day and that is just too stressful. I'm wondering if anybody knows where I can pull off and crash overnight along I80 or I5 around...

I agree, read handybob. I'd start with one panel (100w) and one battery. You can always add more if necessary.

I agree with nt on this, I'd replace all the turnbuckles. Don't know what you have up there but I got forged Tbuckles from Fastenal.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Camper curious (ATC, FWC)

Purple, For simplicity and low weight I went with a shell model, we do all our cooking outside. If you are going to be towing heavy loads a low profile and low weight can only help. With my 6 cylinder 4x4 Frontier I tow an old enclosed wellscargo snowmobile trailer that is built like a brick...

Don, If I remember right 4Wheel recommends mounting directly on the bed w/no mat or liner, Stan could tell you for sure.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaska Trip - Adding a spare wheel on the roof - ok?

Free, Looks like the LTX comes both in P and LT ratings, hope yours are LT's. Look for an LT instead of a P in front of the tire size. If not LT I would carry 2 spares. HAVE FUN.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Alaska Trip - Adding a spare wheel on the roof - ok?

Free, We did almost exactly the same trip in 98. Only took one spare plus plugs and compressor. The Cassiar then was all gravel and was a highlight of the trip (also the Dempster). Had no flats but we had LTR's including spare. You said you have Michelins but not whether or not they are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2nd broken turnbuckle connection

Don, Lots of folks have had the same problem, I caught mine while it was bent before it busted. It looks like you have a fastenal near you in Redlands. I'd take the broken bolt to them and ask for a Grade 8 to replace it. It will have a regular hex head not the rounded carriage bolt head...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West BLACK ROCK RENDEZVOUS, any WTW'ers Going?

Well I'll try one more time since my last posts were censored by the powers that be. IMHO events such as this and burning man negatively impact the Black Rock desert by attracting thousands of people that would not even know the desert existed without them. In my opinion the playa has changed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rotopax Gas Can Problem

Bosque, There are two reasons your cans expand as temp goes up. The vapor pressure of the gasoline rises and the liquid fuel expands. I learned early on riding motorcycles in L.A. in the summer not to fill the tank to the top. The fuel is cool coming out of the ground and would expand and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rotten egg smell

wod I agree with Crow, if you have a slow leak then turning off the propane at the tank and airing out would stop the alarm. Even with the propane off the lines would still be pressurized and continue to leak which would lead to the alarm later. Check all accessible connections for leaks with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Where do you go when you gotta go?

On our latest trip to the AZ strip we used our river toilet system called the Scat Packer. We're both to the point where sqautting over a hole is doable but not comfortable. Since we remote camp we just find a spot away from the truck with a good view.

Made a hot wire foam cutter to remove 1.25" of foam from the hinge side of the door. The tool is just a U shaped piece of wire clamped between two pieces of wood and heated with a propane torch. It worked great but if anybody tries this be sure to do it outdoors and avoid breathing the fumes...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bent Door

I drilled out the rivets from the door side of the hinge and removed the door. The door is made with a foam core bonded to an inner and outer skin. The aluminum frame is attached at each corner with 2 screws into a piece of aluminum angle. The frame in between the corners is bonded to the...
