RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tonopah-Goldfield NV Dispersed Camping?

Steel, I assume you are entering the park on the 374 out of Beatty since the Scotty's Castle road is closed. Depending on when you get to Beatty there is an area west of town where we've boondocked a lot. It's off the Titus Canyon road before it enters DV national park. There's lots of flat...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tonopah-Goldfield NV Dispersed Camping?

Steel, If you need no services you can boondock on any of the many dirt roads off of 95 between Tonopah and Goldfield. If you head west on the Silver Peak Road you can check out Alkali Flat Hotspring which may be soakable (conditions vary).

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Roof leak or condensation?

Strotman, That sucks and it sounds like a leak, not condensation. I'm in NV so we typically have low humidity but we do get significant winter storms and summer thunderstorms. In 5 years I've not had a drop of water enter the camper during a storm. I hope the dealer takes care of you. Get...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Will 84 Fleet fit 2003 Tacoma?

Well first I'd carefully inspect every fitting and line for leaks and inspect the heat exchanger for severe rust and holes. If everything looks OK I'd fire it up. I'd also get a Carbon Monoxide alarm before I spent any time in it with the heater on. Good luck, it looks like you got a good deal.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West mounting a shovel

I mounted a shovel under the back overhang of the camper using electrical conduit mounts like these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Raco-EMT-and-Rigid-IMC-1-in-Hanger-100-Pack-2054/203637550 I use a clevis pin with multiple holes in it with a hitch pin to keep the shovel in place...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTW Member's Truck & Camper Stolen

Well after reading this I just installed an old brake/steering wheel lock I had laying around. It would not stop a determined thief but at least would slow him down. It's sad that we have to be worried about losing things we work so hard for to petty criminals. I sure hope the truck turns up...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West More thoughts on adding solar power

Carl, I added my own solar to run lights and a 12v compressor cooler. I bought a 100w rigid panel and connectors from Renogy for about $140. Got the MorningStar SunSaver SS10 Solar Panel Charge Controller from Belmont solar for $50. It will handle another panel if I need it to. If adding...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West inexpensive locator

CALIcamper, That unit does look interesting but researching it I found this comment: It should be noted that this and most other similar devices available today work only on the 2G network, which is systematically being phased out by most carriers by end of 2016. The H2O card mentioned works...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West inexpensive locator

I haven't checked but I wonder if having a tracking device installed would lower insurance cost. Alley-Kat, it looks like LoJack would be a great solution for urban areas but might not work well while out wandering.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help Plan My SW Trip

I would second the Toroweap area and also Cedar Mesa. Don't get totally hung up on Grand Gulch though. The eastern side of 261 is less visited and therefore less regulated but there are spectacular ruins. Another great area is the San Rafael Swell. There are great places to set up camp with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West inexpensive locator

Spot has a tracking device that will notify you when your vehicle has moved and give you it's coordinates: http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=128 Given how much time and money some of us have in our rigs it might be worth the $120 bucks plus subscription fee.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck rolled back, major damage and lots of questions

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad Progressive is taking care of you. I've always wondered why some folks don't use their parking brake all the time. I don't even think about it and set it religiously. I'm always a little taken aback when I get in somebody else's car or a rental and it's...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Best Type of Heater?

Are you sure you are venting enough? I have an older Olympian that is the equivalent of a Wave 6 and don't have a major condensation problem. I've used it in 2 campers both with and without an Articpack with 2 adults and a large dog onboard. We get condensation under our foam mattress with or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Illegal Mining Claim Markers

Well I have to admit to pulling my fair share of these markers. Most claims that are marked this way have been abandoned. But, safety first, never confront anyone on a claim and leave any material indicating ownership (usually in a small bottle) at the marker site. Most of NV has been claimed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The "Eagle Model" will be discontinued on March 1st, 2016

I also chose the Eagle for the narrowness of the camper, we go down lots of narrow roads with overhanging trees and rocks. I'd rather give up a little room to avoid major damage.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Newbie Visit to Death Valley National Park

Nice trip & pics. Next time you'll be ready to get a little more remote, check out Eureka Dunes, Dedeckera, Saline to the North and then you'll still have the south end and west side to explore, almost too much to think about, have fun!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Homebuilt Popup Camper (Tiltin Hilton)

Just thought I'd share a couple pics of my first popup that I designed and built myself. It was custom built for a 4 banger 4wd 93 Nissan. I hinged it on one side so that we could leave our 65lb canoe on top and still lift it easily. Lived in it for a year with the wife and 95lb lab. Drove...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Reflectix insulation

cwdtmmrs I made an Articpak from reflectix and it makes a huge difference. When installed it creates an air gap between the tent material and outside layer of reflectix of about 1 inch which provides insulation and vastly reduces condensation when used with our Wave 6. We camped in single...

Well I'll certainly recognize that 4WC coming down the road! Congrats on the build and upcoming trip.
