RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Western Oregon and California

In Oregon archery season ends Sept. 23rd and rifle season starts Sept. 29th -- so you have a small window to hit with no actual hunting. But dudes will start staking out there 'deer camp' sites early...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New truck

I've got a 2002 Duramax crew cab long bed and love it! It hauls the Grandby like it isn't even back there. Your 2006 is one of the best years according to Chevy diesel guys. The allison transmission is pretty dang cool - I like the braking built into as much as I like the 'peel out' ability...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Shaving weight --- Leave the jacks behind?

I remove the front two jacks every time I load the camper (They stick way out) - the rear two stay on as they aren't in the way and they are the least of my overweight concerns. For the jacks I remove, I welded the bolt into the plate so it only takes one wrench to get them on/off. I only use...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Recommendation for Oregon Coast near-beach Campgrounds?

Cape Lookout SP is nice and you are +/- 100' from the Ocean in the tent site area. Florence/Winchester Bay/Umpqua Lighthouse SP/The Dunes can be nice - but the OHV riders can make it LOUD and sometimes they don't make the best site mates... You can camp in the sand at Sand Lake if you are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Self Sightings

I've taken a test drive in a Google car - it was pretty cool. I haven't found my camper on street view - but I can find it in the backyard, behind the trailer next to the garden - right where I left it!

Shaffer's Offroad in Alameda is where I'd go if I needed work done and I had the cash to pay someone to do it... Shaffer's Offroad x1 Million on never going to 4wheelparts.... Ugghhh. Terrible. Bad. Enough said.

I've been camping with a toddler and an infant so we over pack :D And I have the small cabover so bedding has to go under the couches - so there goes most of my 'extra' storage. But they key for us has been - everything has a 'spot' - even my son has a 'spot' to sit when we are getting ready...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Soft window replacement options?

I have a broken, cracked, destroyed soft side window on my popup. Anyone replaced just the window portion? I figure I could cut it off near the bottom where it meets the solid window cover - have a boat top/ vinyl repair shop make me a new 'piece' with the velcro on it - stick it in there and...

Saturday 8/4/12 - most of the day, Black Toyota Crew Cab - lifted - very clean looking - with FWC parked in the Cape Kiwanda / Pacific City / Pelican Brew Pub parking lot.... I kept waiting for them to drive out on the sand and tear it up!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wheeling the camper into the truck

I would not try rolling it around. I made a couple of 6" extension plates for my front jacks to help clear the sides of my truck. I can take the jacks on and off in a couple minutes, only 2 nuts to remove per jack. It makes loading so much easier now that I do not have to worry about tearing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Show Me Your Camp Tables

Been using the wobbly aluminum roll up for years, gets the job done for us. Light weight, packs small. If the ground happens to be soft enough you can usually sink the legs in to compensate for the wobble. X2 I have an REI roll up/fold up table that gets setup. Takes up almost no space and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Origins of pop ups

A friend of mine has an early 1970's vintage hard sided popup made by a local company very similar to the one above. He loves it - he used to roll around with it in his vintage 1972 pickup. It now sits in his newer Dodge and just doesn't have the same charm :D

The offroad guys swap to the same year rotors and calipers off a Tundra for increased braking. The only 'modification' is drilling out the banjo bolt for the Tundra calipers. Google up "Tacoma Tundra brake swap"

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A summer on the Oregon coast

Yeah I'd like to get out in a boat at some point! Look for a captian called 'Crabby', right on the waterfront in Newport... Nothing about his operation looks touristy, but he can drive a boat and get you onto some crabs. I love that section of the Oregon Coast! I used to 'work' (if you could...

I have an older Grandby with the standard overhang and it is very nice - but having seen the newer ones, they are MUCH nicer and roomier. My next one will be 100% for sure another Grandby with the extended cab bed. I haul mine around in a 2002 3/4 ton Chevy Crew Cab with the duramax and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Lift Panel Fabrication and Replacement

I owe Rich a beer or 3. I used the bailing wire compression method seen above to replace my lift panel last night. Worked like a champ!! I got away with only needing 9 wires. I went out Sunday afternoon to pop the camper and look for something - opened the top and the rear lift panel ripped...
