RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Latch screws breaking

I haven't had any screws break - but I had a leak in my camper and pulled out every screw on the top weather seal and about 10% of them were so rusty they could of and would have broke if used in the latches. A few broke off at the head when I tried to remove them. The water is getting into the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What is your MPG with FWC ?

Just finished a 700 mile trip in my new to me 2002 Chevy 2500HD 4wd Crew Cab long bed duramax and my 1993 Grandby (think huge and probably close to 9000 pounds when loaded up). Hand calculated and checking mileage against my GPS, I got 16.9 mpg cruising at posted speeds or above. I'm sure if I...

Here you go: I had to add this one - I was snapping pictures of the struts and my lil' helper wanted to jump right in and help - but first he had to pose for a picture. He tried to climb the ladder yesterday while I was working on the roof rack... Yikes. More of an anti-helper! Man...

Scout, I see in your first pic that you have a significant rear rain gutter. I have the same one. And in your second pic I see that you have the roof lifters. Do you have them in the rear? I can't seem to figure out how to get them attached in the rear with that large sized gutter. Can you send...

Looks good. Your welds look great for a first time if that is what you did. Thanks - I've had the spool gun for almost 2 years and only used it once to see if it worked. I'd never welded aluminum prior to this project - you really have crank up the heat and move fast! And not nearly as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another roof rack thread...

I just finished my roof rack and thought I would share the details. I went with 3 cross bars made from 1.5"x1.5"x.120" aluminum. I set them on 6" pieces of the same material that I angle cut at the ends so I could screw them to the camper (I saw that method somewhere on here -- THANKS!!) I put...

Home made roof rack on my grandy

It was my first crack at aluminum welding -- so cut the welds some slack 1.5"x1.5"x.120" tubing with a scrap piece of a Frito Lay chip truck wall for the tray (52"x22"x.090"). I made the tray large enough to hold a bunch of rubbermaid action packers and/or 5...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone done a Completely electric applience camper?

My truck is F250 PSD so its 24v with 12v to some locations.. Actually nothing on your truck is 24V. The factory dual batteries in your truck are wired in parallel resulting in higher avaliable amperage while still operating at approx. 12 volts. Hate for you to buy something for a 24v system and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wiring in My 12 Refridgerator

I went with Anderson powerpole style connectors for mine - zero chance for failure. Either way ditch the stock plug and get a quality locking/self securing plug.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Used Camper Alert Thread

I'm not sure if it on CL - but I just drove by an older Keystone (80's vintage?) in Hillsboro, Oregon. Parked in a yard on the west side of NE Cornell just south of NE Grant. No phone number on the sign - but $250 was the asking price. It was a bit rough but it looked like it was all still...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacing 3-way fridge with compressor fridge

The specs claim a 2.5 amp draw. But they do not run 100% of the time. So it should run off 1 battery for a while. A HUGE improvement over the AC/DC/LP stock style fridge which could kill a battery in about a couple hours running on DC (12 amp draw?? and 100% of the time). I have a cooler shaped...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West fridge's and desert heat.

I rarely turn my 3-way for weekends. Instead I slip in several "Blue Ice" units. About 4-6 of these in various sizes keeps my stuff cold for 2-3 days. It also helps to precool the stuff going in. It gets cold enough that I occasionally have the blue ice plastic case frozen to a shelf. I used...

If you read through the zillion page post about the Edgestars on expoportal - you will find a bunch of guys that have run them in the desert and baja with success - But I do not recall anyone giving battery run times vs. temp stats. I haven't had mine long enough to do any real testing yet. But...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Saftey Reminder - Propane leak!

rectorseal is better than teflon tape. look it up. That is what I used to fix it, AND the yellow lp/cng teflon tape. I used the same technique on my home furnace piping proeject (50+ feet ot pipe, a dozen+ fitting, cutting and threading, etc...) and had zero leaks or problems.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Saftey Reminder - Propane leak!

Just a saftey reminder to check all your propane fittings before you hit the road this summer. I found a leak last night at the 90 degree fitting between the tank fitting and the regulator. I had opened the propane box up to turn the propane on, in order to check the furnace before the weekend...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Patching the camper after fridge removal?

The Nova Cool fridge is an exact size replacement for the Norcold 3-way. It will be installed and sealed to the interior just like the existing fridge is. This fridge is not a portable unit (like a typical Engel/ARB). If the current Norcold fridge is vented outside using the factory...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Patching the camper after fridge removal?

I'm curious too, why can't you use the outside vents for ventilation? I just picked up my Nova Cool R2600 DC fridge to replace the 3-way Norcold. My plan was to use the outside vents. I was going to be a "divider" between the upper and lower vents to help force airflow. Curious on thoughts...
