RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oregon Trail/Barlow Road

Great brief TR Ugly, 'specially for those of us in the hood. This sounds like a nice quick trip for me and the daughter some time. Can you share more details on the rest of his trip? Or is it obvious if I look at a map, which I don't have handy at the moment. Do you do GPS? I 'think' I can...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Edgestar or ARB or Engel

I 'think' someone did a pretty scientific power analysis on the edgestar somewhere in the 100 page post on expo portal. I've seen similar 'studies' done on the ARB - but never side by side and under the same conditions that I can recall. My personal experience is with the edgestar only - I've...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How the West was Mapped

The story of the PLLS is another real down and dirty, nuts and bolts story about how the West was mapped. The outcome of the original surveyor's work is still visible on the ground today, everywhere we see a section line or a corner post. My best surveying memories (am I old enough to have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How the West was Mapped

As a surveyor myself - I am always impressed by the work that was done 150 years ago. I cannot imagine attempting some of the things that they did - even with modern equipment.

My buddy was testing out a new to him roof top tent - I was testing out my HUGE truck on tight trails. We both were happy with the results. I also tested out my edgestar fridge in the bed of the truck being exposed to the rain, dust, dirt, mud and bouncing of the trip. It did fine and kept my...

This was supposed to be a camping trip - but the lil' dude got sick on Thursday and is still sick 4 days later - so we cancelled our camping plans - but I didn't want to ruin my buddies plans at the same time. So... I decided to drive along with him and then head home after he got through the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Loon Lake redux

Thanks for sharing, Andy. I love -- and miss -- those granite-lined lakes...something in short supply in Oregon (well, maybe in the Wallowas). Those are what I grew up with camping in my native California. x2. We've got beauty up here - but nothing like down there. Thanks for the pics...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Gray water; winter FWC use

I've camped in the teens at night and my grey water bucket froze solid as did the drain hose. If it was going to be that cold all the time I would not leave any of the system connected longer than I needed it.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Storage in a Small Place

    30 km (Overland Hadley: That's 5965 rods!) I prefer chains. They really are easier to work with then all the other units. 4 rods = 1 chain 80 chains = 1 mile 10 chains x 10 chains = 1 acre 80 chains x 80 chains = 640 acres = 1 section You don't even need feet!

This tool storage system seems to work well for me. Takes up little space and is pretty cheap too. Have you tried soft sided tool bags? I used to run hard sided tool boxes/containers but switched to soft ones a few years ago. SO much better!! Easier to pack into small spaces, lighter weight...

Speaking of lists . . . Hope I don't need one for the FWC; I have a laminated 4"x6" card that I leave in the cab of the truck to remind me what to do before I drive off. 1) Close and latch the top 2) Close and latch the fridge 3) Close the roof vent 4) Close and LOCK the camper door 5) Turn...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West The ULTIMATE camper mod

A well placed rock spit out of a riding lawn mower at passing by at 40 feet takes down a tempered glass sliding door pretty fast I found :-) So does a nail head being shot off the end of your skil saw as you cut flooring. Ouch!

Very good point. I would never have though about compaction of the powder in the extinguisher. I assume an occasional shake is all that is necessary to solve the problem? A good shake and a whap with a rubber mallet is what the fire extinguisher certification guy does....

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lessons learned about mud in the west

I love off-roading and pushing my limits, but side hills and off-camber stuff like that gives me the weebee jeebees. YIKES! Glad everything worked out.

The first thing we did was toss in all of our car camping, back packing, and general camping stuff and go camping for a day. We sorted it all out and packed the stuff we thought we would need into the camper -the rest got tossed back into the bins in came in and was later put away in the garage...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire Mount Directly on FWC

The second hurdle is to buy a good welder which has been on the 'wish list' for a while. Get a name brand (Miller, Lincoln, Hobart, etc) 220v MIG welder for your first welder. And be sure and get one that you can upgrade easily/cheaply with a spool gun for aluminum. You will be some much...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spare Tire Mount Directly on FWC

You can get a front receiver hitch for your Tundra and a very simple hitch based spare tire mount for not too much. Then when you don't need it -- off it comes.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 3 Way vs Compressor Fridge

Or step it up a notch with $287 for 155watt and a $143 prostar controller with display or you can go with MPPT over PWM, etc. It snow balls. But long story short solarblvd has constantly tempted me with pricing... :P That would double the cost of my camper!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 3 Way vs Compressor Fridge

Someone on here posted to www.solarblvd.com before, they've got some good pricing on certain components. The sky is the limit on component choices and quality but for reasonable entry level stuff I'd think this $159 80 watt panel and $38 charge controller would be reasonable entry level stuff...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Flatbed Discussion

With all that gear piled up - have you ever thought of getting a camper with a bike rack?? :D I really like the look of those flat beds with the intergrated fold down sides, that has always been one of my beefs with flat beds.
