RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

Ah yes, I didn’t think about factoring 80% efficiency from the panels. I probably can factor in the fridge not to draw 15 amps constantly as the temperature cools down and just kicks on when inside warms up. 1/2 duty cycle maybe at around 80F ambient in the shade? Will give it a try. My ZAmp 30...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

Kent, yes I know I need better battery charger and monitor. I installed Trimetric system and heavier gauge wire on my last Grandby 2007 model with the help from Vic’s advise and others and just haven’t upgraded yet with the 2016 model. I didn’t bother to understand 1/10 of what thx Trimetric was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

Thanks earthpig for the thoughtful input. I am guessing that I can probably run in DC for 4-5 hours with my 150 ah batteries, that is not being solar charged. Assuming 15 amp constant use in my 2016 3 way, but I read somewhere these fridge is on 1/3 duty cycle? But with solar charging and with...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

I meant 75 ah agm. Was hoping someone have tested it and can give me some facts. Maybe I will have to do the test myself instead of getting quirky suggestions.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

What is normal usage? My propane tanks can last me over two weeks with hot showers. My post was about seeking test done by 3 ways owners. Don’t need opinions without actual tested facts. Pretty silly to suggest getting a big bank of battery and inverter. Be real.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Heaters and fridge

Vic, FWC manual and everyone else also says 3 ways on DV is no good. I know my 3 way Dometic draws much amps, 10 or more. Have you tested it or know anyone who have throughly tested it? I like some data to tell me it is not worth making it work on DC as a backup or just using it on DC during the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

Got one of these “steak saver”. I have tested it and works fine on FWC propane system. Not sure it will have much gas for hot water heater or furnace but fine for fridge and stove, good for several hours on one lb canisters. Yes, I know it is not ideal to use DC for the 3 way as it draws...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Dometic 3 way on DC

Knowing my propane was approaching low level and decided to test using the Dometic 2.7 cf 3 way on DC. As FWC does not recommend it unless you are driving and charging battery via alternator. Actually, they don’t recommend that either due to charging wiring issues and high amp usage of these...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC New Awning

Paul at Equipt Outfitter sent me replacement L bracket or shelf at no charge and the new one is twice as thick metal as the original. It is not going to break. He also replace my Eezi Awn cover. It will be a project to replace the bag.

Thanks Paul. Great links to sagely advise on tank management. I especially liked Bernard’s see thru slot in the panel. Now if only I am a real carpenter.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Water Tank Mangement

I have some questions regarding my 2016 Grandby’s water tank, and I didn’t think I needed to start a new post as some post here have related issues. My Grandby has the side dinette and hot water option. My questions are how accurate is the water tank monitor and how much water in my tank is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC New Awning

Larry, if you read my post carefully, you will note that I was not referring to the heavy duty mounting brackets that mounts the awning to the camper. The thin steel bracket that the four arms sits on when the awning is stored inside the bag is very thin and flexible. It will bend and break. I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC New Awning

Searched a bit for feedback on the Batwing but did not find any since FWC installed back in 2016. Stan at FWC even asked for feedback from owners. My 2016 Grandby came with the Batwing. I have used the awning no more than a dozen times, and I have a few issues. The thin L shaped bracket on the...

Bernard informed me that the McMaster Stillcock sticks out 2 5/8” from camper wall, and with hose attached, it would be more. My door can’t be latched closed. I have only 2 1/2” clearance.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Freshwater All Metal Drain Valve Replacement Parts and Pics

Anyone tried a power washer 3/8” barb to 3/4” garden hose adapter plus a elbow shut off valve. Maybe JB weld a big washer as mounting plate? Or sacrifice the cheap plastic valve to use the mounting plate. Cost less than $15. Think I will order the parts and experiment. Maybe I can corner the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Freshwater All Metal Drain Valve Replacement Parts and Pics

Fifty bucks for the upgrade to the fancy flange and valve! Amazon has Camco plastic drain valve for less than $3. If I replace the valve couple of times a years...there must be a better and cheaper way to have a usable valve that can last a few years without spending $50.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 30 lb vs 40lb struts

I have the same question for my 2016 Grandby. The front struts is labeled as 40 lbs, but the rear struts are not labeled. I called FWC, left message but have not heard back. I probably will upgrade to 40 lbs in the rear to give my shoulders a break.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West another drain valve replacement

Can you measure the distance from mounting surface to outer hose thread. My Granby’s outlet is located on the right side of the propane compartment door and I am not certain this Stillcock will allow my camper door to close and latched to the newer door hold down lever. Nibco bib diagram does...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Since the sun was out

The good news is that you probably can sell it for about what you paid for the Hawk. I am in my third Grandby and I have sold the last two with a profit and I expect when I am ready to upgrade again in couple of years, I am not going to loose much, maybe even make a profit again.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Replacing an inefficient Zamp solar kit with a Overland kit

I like my Zamp 160 watts, wish I have the newer Overland, but I always want newer, better, bigger. I like 50 degree in my camper, and not freezing 10 degree. I wish it is 70 degree, and I am working on that. If 50F is too cold, stay home.
