RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front roof lift helper

Thanks for the replies. I did something that I’m happy with. Tried to upload pix but I guess the files are too big. Anyway, I removed the board that was installed. I left the plastic hinged bracket and bolted to it (I used a 2 hole service cable strap (size is 3#3-3#2 from Home Depot) and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External 110v plug

Probably not a bad idea. We’ve van camped (E350 extended cargo with a 6.8L V10) for the last 10 years and taken some long trips, but the FWC is quite a step up (we can stand in it!!) I’ve got a Ford F350 with the 6.7 diesel. It has 4WD and seems pretty durable.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External 110v plug

Got it. I appreciate your input on this as well as other things you’ve helped me with. This is the first truck camper rodeo for us and we bought a, like new, 2018 Grandby model. Our home base is south FL so the first thing I did was a portable AC. Now I need to ‘beef up’ the battery/solar...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External 110v plug

That was my first thought. I use the drivers side turnbuckle door for my portable ac vent ( we live in South FL…hot) but the passenger side might work. Thanks for the thought.

Thanks, I didn’t like the idea of putting holes in the camper either. Are you running your inverter off your truck battery?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West External 110v plug

Has anyone installed an external GFI plug on their rig? I have a 2018 Grandby model and could see a benefit to having this. If so, where did you wire it from and where did you install the plug? Thank you

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Foldable solar panel

Hi, I only found a thread that was 2 years old and thought there might be updated information. Which foldable panel is the best value? The FWC site only sells the Bugout 130W and it’s $595. Hopefully there are other options. Let me know what you have. My Grandby has the SAE plug on the rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Second Battery Install and Truck Wiring

Wow, Now I realize that I know nothing about any of this. I will hopefully be camping in places with shore power so I may be better off not connecting to the truck with the factory harness that I have and just letting the 160W panel do its thing while I’m driving and then the shore power can...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Casters to move Camper

Thanks for the reply. Do you have any cross bracing inside of the 4x8 frame? Can’t tell from the picture.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Second Battery Install and Truck Wiring

Thank you. My intention is solely to get the camper batteries to charge while running. My 2011 F350 has dual batteries. Besides connecting the camper harness, what are other considerations or upgrades that I’ll need to do? I don’t know what the alternator output is and if its sufficient, but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Front roof lift helper

I have the Grandby, front dinette with the king bed option. Has anyone removed/replaced the black board that is used to help lift and lower the roof? It hangs down 4 or 5 inches at the front and I’ve already banged into a few times. It seems like I could use a pull knob and fastener (like...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Second Battery Install and Truck Wiring

I really appreciate the answers and comments on my other posts. First time rodeo for me. My 2018 Grandby has a single 160W solar panel from the factory. It came with a single AGM battery. If I add a second AGM battery, is there a minimum gauge wire I should use to connect the two batteries...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tailgate

I am going to give it a try with it on because I see several advantages to doing that. I will just need to shorten the rubber bumpers to make it work

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a 2nd Solar Panel

Thanks. One of the responses said to verify that the solar controller can handle more. I read and It appears that the controller is only good for up to 200 watts. My panel on the roof is 160 so I assume I could only put a 40 watt portable one. Unless there’s something I’m missing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a 2nd Solar Panel

Great feedback. Thank you. I just got home with the camper last night so today, the work/evaluation begins! It only has 1 battery as well so I really do need to start with a thorough assessment of my estimated needs.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Casters to move Camper

What about using either 2 or 4 furniture dollys? Harbor freight makes a 30”x19” that is rated for 1,000 lbs. I’m not certain the manual jacks would let me lower it that’s low, but if so, might work.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tailgate

Newbie with a 2018 Grandby. It’s on an 2011 F350 8’ bed. The camper has very large rubber numbers that keep it from going any further forward. Has anyone reduced the size of the bumpers enough to keep the tailgate on and closed? It looks like there would be enough room but I’m curious if...

What exactly are you using to get a 1 1/2” lift?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Casters to move Camper

Hi. I have a 2018 Grandby and I need to store it in my garage (homeowner’s association rules). It’s way too tall to back in on my truck. Has anyone either made some sort of rolling platform for their camper or how about attaching single casters to each of the ‘round feet’? My camper weighs...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding a 2nd Solar Panel

I am new. I just purchased a 2018 Grandby model. It came with a single, factory installed, solar panel mounted to the Yakima tracks. If I was to add a 2nd panel up there, is it prewired for that or is it going to be a big deal? There appears to be plenty of room to fit a second one there...
