RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Salt the old/new way

While I have not replied let alone posted anything in awhile, I still have my Grandby and check in periodically. In the spirit of sharing interest in the quaint, heirloom, near lost art or whatever with those on here that seem to be the like minded, I offer the following courtesy OPB...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fly Fishing Oregon & Idaho Wilderness - August 2023

While I’ve read all three installments, so far installment one resonates with me. I had a teacher in high school who was an avid fisherman and upland bird hunter. He was actually an interesting gent. He put Bull Trout, Steelhead and Chukar in the same category. That category being; “You go...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to me NCO Alaskan

Welcome to the forum. That’s a nice looking pair. While I’m an FWC owner, I’ve certainly checked out the Alaskan section on here enough to confirm there is IMO a lot of good info on here concerning them. I’ll be looking to see what you post up about your electrical and other system additions...

I know this was posted a few days ago. None the less thank you for sharing this. While I don’t have his complete works, Small Comforts is one of my favorite books, and I recommend to almost anyone. Anyone of a certain age at least.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mormon Cricket Stories

I don’t remember, or maybe didn’t know if they were Mormon, Jerusalem or non denominational crickets, but back in the 70’s we had a mass invasion in Central Oregon. My Grandfather had to hire a spray plane twice to beat them back from the alfalfa.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Spring thing

I’ve heard it before, and describing the same phenomenon. I don’t remember from whom(s). My Grandfather used to describe those events with the phrase, “Don’t look up, you’ll drown”, or “That’s a gully washer”.

Looks like an upscale model of the shacks on wheels we used to see up here when the Haight-Ashbury crowd fled north. Thanks for sharing.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West You know you're a geezer when.......................

Once upon a time, an old, wise and successful commodities trader told me; “The world is full of ambiguous victories and nebulous defeats. Count everything a victory”. I think that counts in this case too. Regardless it’s a good statement.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Need to borrow jacks - in Reno - April 4 or 5.

If you’re unsuccessful finding help, My neighbor was able to rent a set of tripod based cable jacks to lift the roof of his BIG tent trailer to repair the lift recently. Cost $40.00 or so for the day. I would guess a place as big as the Reno/Sparks/Stead area should have someplace with a pair...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Castors for Camper Dolly?

Pneumatic, (Air Up) casters are available. I would suggest finding the biggest and widest you can and not consider solid wheel casters. That typed, I too have my Grandby sitting on a trailer. Good luck with your endeavor.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Current Spike in Gas Prices

Tonopah Nv on Friday, Chevron on the north end of town was $5.99/gal for regular and the Texaco on the south end of town was $5.79. Eight days earlier I swear the price locations were reversed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Oregon Caves etc.

I don’t know what camping is available at the Caves. As a National Monument I’d guess there has to be something there. There are a couple USFS and maybe BLM campgrounds out that way IIRC. I don’t think I’d boondock around Cave Junction unless I had good intelligence on and reconnaissance of...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Have You Had A Close Call Driving - Cheated Death?

I don’t know that I cheated death, but did avoid it. I wrote on here a few years ago about leaving from the old CCC camp at Hart Mtn. Refuge headed toward Hwy 395. I lost the castle nut off the Pitman Arm. For the curious, the Pitman Arm is the arm that connects the steering box to the rest of...

I can hear the Ghost of generubins profile cranking up to flame the links of anyone considering a tool roll, or similar item there of as I type  !!!! For the unaware, generubin was a fairly frequent contributor here at one time. He either started, or was part of a somewhat lengthy...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rope making

You gotta appreciate what I call Old World Craftsmanship, at least I do I think. If such things are of interest here, the following concerns the crafting of a Riata, the rawhide rope still used by some Buckaroo’s around here. Fair warning, it includes skinning a cow, cutting and fleshing hides...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Won't rotate tires with camper on?

It’s been a long time since I’ve been through Bishop, so I have no specifics to recommend, I am familiar with the previously mentioned dealers. As mentioned any shop who couldn’t figure out how to get your truck up and do the work didn’t want to do the work, or is highly incompetent. I think...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mid spring foray into Washington’s Okanogan.

I for one look forward to your third installment. I lived and worked in the Methow Valley for a few years back in the late 80’s/early 90’s. It’s nice to look at your photos and think back to when I was there. I owned a little Ford Ranger then, read about FWC campers through Gary Wescott...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to load camper onto a Uhaul trailer.

If you’re looking for a full sized model like a Grandby, they’re 80 inches or so wide, about 2 inches more between the jacks, that assumes we’re talking about corner jacks. According to FWC, the Fleet and Swift are 75 in wide. If you’re looking at older models like a Ranger II or the original...
