RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tailgate on or off?

Unnecessary extra weight. Blocks the camper door when up. Blocks the camper door when down. No real added value. Looks odd with tailgate closed against slide in camper. You can guess my opinion on this topic.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Picking up Hawk in 2 Months - Questions

Yes. On my 2015 Hawk the interior switches are often accidentally switched on by loose cargo (eg. coolers or boxes) on the floor when it moves around and touches the switch. I always try to tie items down or pack carefully to prevent items hitting switches.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Picking up Hawk in 2 Months - Questions

RE Mounting. Get confirmation in writing from them that your self installed mounting system will allow them to install camper. Ask for their recommendations too. At the eyebolt I’d go with big reinforcing plate under aluminum bed and smaller plate or washer above. Need flanged eyebolt for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West 2023 F-250/Grandby first load

Nice rig. Glad to see another Supercab instead of more Supercrew cabs. If you have 2.5” clearance down the centerline of the cab (fore-aft) you should be fine. My Superduty twists such that the clearance down centerline doesn’t diminish too much. It does diminish toward the left and right...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Venting Turnbuckle Doors

Of course- I totally forgot that. Maybe partly because I have locknuts on my turnbuckles and my camper is pretty much on full time.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Venting Turnbuckle Doors

I might do this too, at least for one turnbuckle door. I might use velcro screen however I need to be able to remove it because I do store some items in the space between the camper and the truck bed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Vinyl Wrap

You could try a small sample area using a heat gun (carefully!). I’d look for the wrap to pull away from the valley of the texture. It is easy to do on smooth siding.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Good Car Camping Tent

Take a look at Kodiak Canvas tents. I have one and seems very nice. There top of line are made in USA, lower cost line is made overseas

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Whats a good portable propane camp stove?

I have had good luck with Coleman 2-burner stoves, both white gas and propane for simmer to high heat. I don't really use them any more because the camper stove is used for heating and simmer. For cooking meat I use a Coleman propane grill outside so as not to stink up the camper...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West custom springs questions

Air bags alone has some additional disadvantages if there is failure on a trip. And regardless of failure they are often going to limit your suspension travel (which is OK on pavement). I vote for spring upgrade. Also you may wish to upgrade brakes if you have an older truck. Some of those...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Low Cost Mods

Warning- Bling mod. Had some spare time so put 3M vinyl over the OEM band on the camper exterior. Seems like a limitless selection of patterns and colors available.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adding pigtails to batteries

Just Neg terminal. If you run out of room on the post connector there are various types that lend to more connections. Example https://www.jeepcables.com/products/millitary-battery-terminals?gclid=CjwKCAjwzuqgBhAcEiwAdj5dRl0DdrnY6yk2E2b5lltlCVlPNyW1tRmn8o11TQu2xbYYawqmNFarhRoC4zoQAvD_BwE

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Thinking about going Lithium, have questions...

Maybe try warranty replacement on the AGM. Keep in mind that going Lithium might also require you to change out your power inverter, solar charge controller, and truck to camper charge equip. It makes for quite a project.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ladder on hawk camper

I’m a dozen years behind OP and I’m planning ahead expecting to not visit the roof as much going forward. I have the factory fabricated roof rack and the rear of it gives a good handhold when using the rear wall steps. With my previous Hawk I used to haul all sorts of lumber up there for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tailgate

I've never tried it, but my observation is that the tailgate would make it more difficult to get through the door and into the camper and leaving it on does not add any value to the camper package. Cameras can be relocated, portable steps can be utilized; and camp chairs can be used for sitting.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire tread depth for replacement

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Road Conditions - North Pass Death Valley

Doing some planning for a trip in March or April and considering entering Death Valley via Waucoba Saline Road if the snow is passable at the 7300 elevation North Pass. Does anyone have a "best guess" for this year or can recommend good sources for information on conditions from prior years...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Refrigerator door closed?

Mine is similar to this; except I used 3/4 webbing strap with snaps. I screwed a male snap onto the frig door and the strap is fixed to the cabinet. The strap has two snaps: one position to secure door closed; and a second position to secure door adjar when fridge is empty. The door adjar...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Won't rotate tires with camper on?

Perhaps if you can go to the scales and get a certificate proving that you are within the vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating then they may concede and do the service.?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Pros and cons of permanent mounting.

Same here! RonR; If there is a desire for a more robust connection, perhaps add larger plates under the aluminum bed to distribute the load; and add locking nuts to the turnbuckles to reduce chance of coming loose. I did those two things to my superduty and the camper is pretty much full time...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wilderness Areas Rules

I like driving my truck/camper on dirt roads and I like mountain biking on remote trails but I absolutely cherish the wilderness areas for being able to escape the mechanized world which almost completely engulfs our daily lives. I've been looking at going to a couple of new to me wilderness...
