RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West choosing a flatbed

Just some thoughts...if you have a welding buddy that will work for food and beer, that would probably be an inexpensive way to go. A concern I would have with a wood floor (if you use, say, 2x6's) would be the gaps in between the 2x's would allow road spray to constantly come up and soak the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advantages of NCO?

Thanks for the info, PackRat. Yes, I was mainly thinking of this question if ordering a new one and the flat bed with side door would be ideal. However, I keep choking on the price of close to 50K when including the cost of the flatbed. I'm not a fan anymore of crawling into the overhead...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Advantages of NCO?

I hope to have an Alaskan in my future, but I am wondering... What are the advantages to the NCO models? (Other than the obvious of simpler set up/take down and possible water leakage in that area.) Do the NCO's sit any lower in the down position? There are a lot of them out there, and have...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire/Rim Size Selection

And when it comes time to replace the tires, you'll pay $200-$250 more for a set of 20's. I'm surprised Ford only supplies the 18" spare regardless. Seems like too much of a mis-match in OD.

Selling our 2012 Grandby side dinette. Bought a travel trailer, and we just won't be using it any more. It has seen very little use--looks new and smells new. We've never even cooked in it. No modifications other than step bracket for accordion steps. ******SOLD***********

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Push me over, or steer me away, from the edge - Hawk Flatbed

Adam- Most of your concerns have already been covered... But to add to your condensation questions, the current "canvas" sides that you asked if it could get soggy...no. It's not canvas, it's a vinyl coated fabric and does not soak up any moisture. You would just wipe off any moisture quickly...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Handguns traveling in CA stored in FWC?

A canvas bag does not meet the criteria for transporting a firearm on a plane. It has to be in a locked, hard-sided case, which can then be put in any sort of luggage, locked or not.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Handguns traveling in CA stored in FWC?

I would not want to be in a gray area with CA firearms laws. I would keep it in a separate locked container while traveling; then unlock it for easier access while present within/around the camper. Handgunlaw.us is a great site for perusing all state's laws. They keep it up to date. From ^...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

DrJ- I'm confused...your first camper was a Hawk front dinette, and you say you could eat lunch without popping the top. But on your Grandby front dinette you say you can't, because the dinette is raised. So was the dinette not raised on the Hawk? I thought all FD's were raised, shower or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

I don't know if it's even an option in the front dinette, he'll have to ask... I guess you'd have to use a ladder in the aisle if the bed does in fact extend past the dinette seats, which is my preferred method anyway (I have the side dinette.)

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ordering a Hawk 1-28-17 Do's Don'ts?

One you might ask the factory about is the King Bed option. It amounts to an extra-long pull-out with another set of cushions to fill that space. The great thing is, it allows two adults to sleep north-south instead of the usual east-west; this means one person doesn't need to crawl over the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Chassis Cab "Showdown": RAM 3500 vs. F-350

I've not heard of the Hemi's having major engine problems. I wonder what year range they are talking about? One really neat thing about Rams (or any Mopar) is that you can get a lifetime Chrysler bumper-to-bumper warranty for about $3K. Unlimited mileage. Repairs handled at any dealer. So if...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Truck woes

A buddy and I rented a car with the start/stop "feature". We both hated it, and vowed to never buy a car with it (or at least be able to de-activate it.) When waiting in traffic, and you need to move forward just a bit, the engine re-starts and then shuts off when you stop again. Very...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West roof lifter thingy strut strength with solar panel?

Keep in mind the FWC factory recommends 40 lbs as a max. Have you tried lifting the front section first? I'd always push the bed slide in so I could get under the wooden cross brace before looking to add stronger than 40 struts. Another thing you might consider is a "speaker lift".
