RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help Troubleshoot Frig

I didnt install the trimetric so I dont know if all the negatives ran through the shunt (or what a shunt is). The frig has worked for two years without fail. The yellow error light displays when the frig fails to hold temperature (set at 40). Changing the 3 position switch doesnt change the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help Troubleshoot Frig

Hello, I have a Norcold top-loading 45L refrigerator. It's powered by a factory installed FWC 165 watt solar panel, two 100 amp batteries, and the alternator from my truck. When I drive the truck and have the alternator supplying additional power, the frig works normally. When I turn the...

Fireball can you give some details about the setup you love? Which suspension are you using and is it set up for lighter loads? NTSQD could you offer details of your setup? Brands etc ..? A welding class at my community college may take this on as a project if I accept responsibility For...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

I backed into this situation. I'm traveling 1500 miles round trip once a month, plus normal travel, and it costs too much in the truck - I don't want to own two vehicles. I intended to build a dolly and store the camper in the garage for now, and looked at dolly posts here. I realized for a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

Would a torsion axle trailer be better? Are straight axle trailers harder on equipment because the load is so light? If the trailer is designed to carry 3500lbs but I only carry 1500lbs is that the reason it's so rough? If I reduced the size or number of springs would this smooth out the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting Hawk on utility trailer

I'm selling my truck and would like to mount my 2015 Hawk on a utility trailer and tow it with a mid-size car. Can you recommend a make and model trailer, or considerations and features I should look for. One idea I had (feel free to critique) is to mount the camper backwards (door in front)...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West purchase FWC factory solar? Or?

I'm not handy, not sure a solar system is the place to start, but understand what you mean, at some point I'll have to troubleshoot my own system in the backcountry.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West My 2013 Hawk Solar Upgrade

Spitfire, Can you recommend a solar installer in WA or OR that installs Bogart Engineering parts? I'm reading the SC2030 and 2030RV battery monitor work well together. Thanks

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West purchase FWC factory solar? Or?

I am thinking about mounting a 160W panel on the roof, and if I need more, buying a portable panel to run off the rear wall plug. I have a stock 125amp alternator on my truck. I've read that should be large enough to charge the truck's starting battery, and the two camper batteries ... but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West purchase FWC factory solar? Or?

I purchased a dealer demo Hawk (shell). I'm new to truck camping and solar systems. I have an 08 GMC 2500HD, gas engine. I'll take the Hawk to the factory to add some options and I'm considering having them install the factory solar system - is their's a good system, and large enough for my...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West anyone using RAM 2500 6.4L Hemi?

I'm only looking at 4x4s. I thought all of those have limited slip axles. Am I wrong? The Tradesman trim levels have the 4WD shifter on the floor and the SLTs have an electronic 4WD shifter on the dash. Is this an indicator of limited slip axles because I don't see them by name on any of...

If you are using a RAM 2500 with the 6.4L Hemi could you share your experiences with the truck? Reliable? Miles per gallon while carrying your pop-up camper? Options you recommend getting at purchase? Anyone just decide to get the 3500 instead? Thanks.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buying and registering a truck in Mexico

Ted, My thoughts exactly Ted. I have used, overseas, a diesel Hilux and a diesel "World Truck", Ford's mid-sized version of the Ranger they sell everywhere except in the US. Both are perfect for an FWC or ATC. Lots of torque, and 28-30 mpg. I don't know the Hilux's payload, but the Ford was...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Buying and registering a truck in Mexico

I want to spend part of the year in Mexico, and part of the year in the US, traveling and using a truck camper. Mexico has new mid-sized trucks with diesel engines, that do not have DEF and emissions that the US trucks have. Models that are not available in the US. Great gas mileage without...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade for F150?

Timothy, I appreciate you offering the 2015 payloads. My dealership didn't have any info on 2015s. At the expense of sounding cheap, I just can't see spending $40k on a new F150, when a similar couple years old one is half the price. Which ever direction I go it will be a used truck.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade for F150?

Tow package includes increasing the rear axle to 9.75". The payload package is everything in the max tow package .... plus an addition rear axle spring. 100acre, thanks for your experience, and for the towing mpg, I have wondered about that too.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade for F150?

iowahiker, thanks for the details. Ford is not publishing payloads for 2015s, the 2014 was about 1700lbs. with the tow package upgrade. snuffy, I think F250 Supercab short bed is a better option for payload. But I drive 30k miles a year and they get 25% less mpg, the main reason I was trying...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Suspension upgrade for F150?

I live in a busy city. This will also be my daily driver. A SuperCab with the short bed is the best compromise for overall length, right size bed for my camper, and in cab storage, and general maneuverability. Ford didn't (and doesn't) offer the payload package for that truck. Is there a...
