RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Want to replace MPPT and battery monitor, mounting issues

Thanks dscobell and ntsqd for your replies. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to go, and your suggestions have helped clear some things up for me. Much appreciated.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Want to replace MPPT and battery monitor, mounting issues

OK. Seems simple enough. Assuming you used a plastic cutting tool to make smooth cuts....? And drilled holes in the corners for screws. I'll check out what my hardware store has....hopefully something I can use. I don't live near a Home Depot.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Want to replace MPPT and battery monitor, mounting issues

Thought I'd reach out to the community and see what others have done in a similar situation.... I want to replace my current controller/battery monitor with Victron equipment, as my MPPT won't handle anything above 35-40V. I have 3 panels on the roof that I want to rewire in a mixed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question about lithium batteries and storage

My take on this is similar to yours, except I've read that the batteries like to be anywhere between 50%-100%....the percentages seem to be all over the map, and there's no clear-cut rule to follow on set level before you disconnect and leave it idle. I'm not sure if it makes much of a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question about lithium batteries and storage

I would use the silver switch and do what you do if I had the IP22....but living in Wyoming, where my garage gets down below zero regularly, negates winter garage charging. I'll probably move the battery into the house during winter months. Because I don't have a lithium friendly AC to DC...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question about lithium batteries and storage

Tacoma, thanks for the link, missed it somehow. Rando has been very helpful in the past when I've had questions regarding electrical stuff. I'm onboard with the wiring revisions and DC-DC charger. I'll probably limit my shore power charging.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Question about lithium batteries and storage

Looked thru previous posts but couldn't find a clear answer on this... When storing your lithium battery FWC in the garage between camping adventures, SHOULD you ever plug it into shore power and walk away? Since the camper AC to DC converter will float charge, I'm thinking it's not a good...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Should I leave my battery charger plugged in during storage

Paul...on my Four Wheel, you have to pull the master (silver) knob OUT in order to have shore power charge the batteries. I think that's what Offgrid4two said above as well.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Moving from #Vanlife to a Camper

Hi Justin...you've already had some great comments posted here, and I'm probably repeating what most have said already. Go with a Granby and a 3/4 ton truck. I have a Hawk on a 3/4 ton, and it's good for me and my wife (we're both 5'9"-5'10"), and it can be tight at times. Can't imagine what...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Isotherm Refrigerator in New FWC

Just for more info/comparison, I have a Dometic 110L 2-way. When the compressor is running it uses ~4 amps. I have decent battery capacity and a big solar array, but despite that I think the frig is very efficient. I set the thermostat about halfway between off and full, and everything stays...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Charging Choice

Sounds like this thread is winding down, as Alan did some rewiring and improved his charging. Just wanted to throw in my recent experience w/charging, in case anyone else is considering charging alternatives. I recently replaced my original Surepower 1314A separator with a Blue Sea 7611 ACR...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West No grey water system

I bought a Faswin 10L collapsible bucket on Amazon for about $14.00. Then I run a washing machine hose from the camper to the bucket. I like the collapsible bucket, easy to store. The machine hose just dangles in the bucket, but it's no problem.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bent roof by leaving one latch on when opening

Here's a quick sketch of how I've seen it done: Make sure you put the 2 x 4 on edge, with the leading (front) edge directly under the bent area - which usually is where the buckle is located that you forgot to undo. You want the 2 x 4 flat against the window canvas, with the upper lip of the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Bent roof by leaving one latch on when opening

I've seen Denny @ FWC here in Jackson straighten out a few bent roofs. All he does is put a short 2 x 4, maybe 1.5- 2ft long, on the long edge, and position the board against the canvas with the front edge of the board right underneath the bend. He then brings the roof down so that it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Getting a Hawk home

Can't speak for a Ram, but I suspect it's the same situation as my Chevy......I had the big gap between my bedwall and the camper, didn't like it. I took a hacksaw and cut each bumper longitudinally, decreasing the width of each by half. This allowed me to snug the camper up closer to the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Propane Detector won’t stop beeping

I can contribute to this a little...had the same problem when I bought my 2015 Hawk. Thought it was a bad detector, and FW sent me a new one. Same thing happened. I park my camper in the garage when I'm not using it. Detector would seem to go off in garage, but nowhere else. Did some...

I think that's what he's considering, but he's not sure what kind of retrofitting he has to do to get the Fleet to fit properly in the bigger truck bed.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Small camper, big(ger) truck

It's 44" from the bed to the roof of my cab. For reference, it's 48" to the bottom of my camper cabover, so there's about a 4" gap between the roof of my cab and the bottom of the cabover. I can't give you any advice regarding the rigging of the Fleet in a 1/2 ton bed but I'm sure someone on...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What Brand is the 160 watt Solar Panel FWC Provides?

I have a 2015 Hawk w/ two roof vents, and the port is between them, about in the middle from front to back, but more towards the left (driver's side) of the camper. I have 3 rigid panels on my roof, a 160W in the middle and 2 - 80 W panels, one in front of the front vent and one behind the rear...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Small camper, big(ger) truck

Bento....sounds like you're considering a Ford or Toyota, but if a Chevy is on your possibility list I can measure the height of my truck cab from the bed. I have a 2500 HD. That particular measurement, I believe, is the same for 3/4 and 1/2 ton Chevys. JMO, but I think you're better off...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Upgrading Wiring to Charge Camper Batteries From Truck?

If I understand your original post, you have questions about how the wiring inside your cabinet, from your isolator inward to your camper batteries, is routed. I have the same questions. Without pulling the cabinet apart it would be nice to know, generally, how things are routed in there.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Blue Sea ACR question

The limited amperage is a good feature. I read the specs on the Renogy, it's easy to understand. The price is right, and it has good reviews. One advantage I'm seeing to the ACR is that I can get some charging of the engine battery, when the engine is off, from my solar once the camper...
