Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

One of my favorite discussions I saw was “Your next Last Camper!” The funny part was how everyone did so much research to find the “perfect” setup, and no one still had that setup. You don't know what you need until you try and find out what you value. Your values will change. Use what you...

Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

Just remember also … an expedition trailer can carry WAY more payload than any truck. Always an option vs a truck camper.

Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

Really, back to the original question, 2000 lbs is a lot. That means extra people or stuff. The engine is not the problem; its payload. The old 3/4 tons and 1tons came with straight sixes - plenty powerful enough (with their gearing). My 3.6 Pentastar is WAY more powerful than my 1970 K5 350...

Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

Another reason I bought the RAM 3.6 over the Tacoma is the cabin room. The RAM can hold 6 people, and I can sleep on the back seat camping - bit diagonal, but it works nice.

Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

Newer base RAMs 3.6 Pentastars have up to 2,300lb payload. What’s that like 1,000lbs more than a Tacoma!?

Dodge Ram 1500 Classic w/3.6L Pentastar V6 w/Truck Camper Performance Question

OK. Some good things about the RAM with the 3.6 Pentastar. First, no FWC/ATC yet, but i bought it for that purpose. The reasons for a RAM with the 3.6 Pentastar is superior gas mileage, payload (1,700lbs), ride, good clearance(10.6”), good water fording(30”), and low Total Cost of Ownership...

    Unvented Gas Heaters

Bit of ALL unvented propane burning theory. A properly burning propane flame produces H2O and CO2(safe carbon di-oxide or carbon with two oxygens **the two oxygens is the key to this) with almost immeasurable CO (poisonous carbon mono-oxide or carbon with one oxygen). Disrupt the flame, like a...

Replacing an inefficient Zamp solar kit with a Overland kit

Here is a piece of information about a Zamp solar setup that is implied, but it is not stated directly. A Zamp PWM Charge controller combined with a 160 watt Overland solar panel only puts out 80 watts on a perfect day. Replace that (or any) PWM charge controller with an MPPT charge...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

That is good to know. Mine is in a camper that is driven almost daily when I am in camping mode -- my camping is more exploring with a camper. I think the daily bumping around keeps the float from sticking in the couple of years of use. I have not used in on something stationary like a grill...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

I wrote about this before, but I did not have an exact price at the time. I just got my new BJ's membership. Bj's has the 20lb steel propane tank with a gauge connected to an internal float for $30. I like mine. The gauge is very repeatable. In reality, since my propane usage is quite low, I...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

It appears to be one company's "unsafe conditions and practices". It concerns me, but for me it does not make me think all composite propane cylinders are prone to failure, but rather it was a bad manufacturer. I just don't see any evidence that composite propane cylinders as a group are any...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

Love the composite cylinders. If I did not have the float version, this is what I would have. Love being able to see the propane level. Very Expensive, but I only need one. Quick price search: $115 for 11lb. $150 for 22 lb. There may be much better deals. Don't know why they have strange...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

What is the Brand/Make of the propane tank (with float and gauge)? (sorry...answering these in the wrong order). The propane tank I purchased with the internal float is the Worthington Pro Grade 20 lb. I got mine at BJ's for less than $50. Item: 602343 | Model: 308057. Search "BJ's...

    12v vs. 3 way fridge

I see this is an old discussions. I get a lot of information from these old threads, though this discussion has stalled. However, I see there is a missing summary of information that I happen to have, so this is for the next person looking at these old threads for information, but not...

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

Not FWC specific, but clone ATC uses 20lb tanks: I have a 20lb tank that has a real internal float and external level gauge. About 2x-3x the price of a normal 20lb tank. Very accurate.

    Propane Mangement In A FWC?

They make approved translucent fiberglass/composite 10/11 lb tanks. Propane level can be seen with the right light behind them. Over $100.

Honda Ridgeline - 2nd gen has arrived

I agree that Hondas do not seem as reliable as in the past (my brothers '88 Accord has over 400k miles on it and still going, whereas my '03 CRV, which still looks and basically acts new except a front end scraping and clunking noise, has a variety of front suspension issues that just get worse...

Honda Ridgeline - 2nd gen has arrived

Reliability of a Honda/Toyota. Ride/control of a RAM. If reported 1600lb payload is true, then it can carry a couple more hundred camper pounds than a Tacoma. SO....... IF it can carry an 800lb Four Wheel Camper like one made for a Tacoma Crew cab + 500lb of "me&stuff", IF it has at least the...

Honda Ridgeline - 2nd gen has arrived

Been thinking about this one since the trap door is so huge. Lots of nice storage down there. Remove the trap door (few bolts), and put a smaller trap door in the camper. Or use it for more permanent camper items (water, battery, ?), though really would want those heavy items toward the...
