You can do a lot to stop the smell. Drain the carbs before you load them. Plug the vent hoses or connect them to a catch bottle. Put down a tarp for drips. Open the windows before you stop.
I just got back from DV. The drive through Titus Cyn was rough.
Anyone break an arm yet? I've seen them one-wheelers pitch people right off when the battery dies.
On my 2021 RAM, I went with 18x9 Method Race wheels, forged aluminum, just the right offset to easily clear 35's with stock suspension and 37's with 2 1/2-3" lift. These have a 4000# load rating, each. The ones with the extra ribs that act like a bead lock, but don't look like one.
Then went...
Wango showed me his truck/flatbed/camper before I started mine. I went the same route with the Protech aluminum flatbed and toolboxes. Hard to believe, but the 8 1/2 ft flatbed was lighter than the stock 8 ft bed. I would not hesitate to put a 1/2 to 1 ft longer flatbed on a truck to run these...
I've had a screw or two back out on my old FWC. They were double lead screws with less holding power. I don't know what ATC uses these days, but the rubber washer needs to be slightly bulging to work. Then a thin coat of RTV to be sure.
Camper was sold. Truck is still available for $38,000, in Corvallis, OR
This truck was built out with with lots of storage.
This leaves a lot of capability to carry a large motorcycle or tow a large trailer.

I had ATC build a custom shell on my 7x8 1/2 flat bed. I moved every door, window and added a window and three hatches. It was great that they pre-wired solar, wired up a fan and lights, then ran the wires out exactly where I wanted for future additions. I had them add stop/tail lights up high...
+1 on the use of steel. Strength is not usually the design issue, it is deflection. Steel is rigid, aluminum is like a spring. Steel is very easy to weld, alum not as easy. Aluminum is also much more prone to crack. Steel is significantly cheaper to buy also.
I have an ATC flat bed shell that I will put up for sale soon. It needs a 7' x 8.5' flat bed for it to sit on. I've built it out with cabinets. Can sleep 3 big humans. Frig/Freezer, LED lights, two deep cycle AGM's, 200 watt solar and controller not mounted. RH side door, three hatch doors...
Nice report on that area, it is very unique. We once visited Crack In The Ground in early June. It was 90 degrees out, but the bottom of the crack was packed with ice. Looks like the first step on the ice would send you to the bottom with no escape.
I've been out there many times and never...
Hi Hodakaguy,
I noticed that those IR Diesels have 7 cylinders, which is odd in several ways. Can you tell if one cylinder was just an air compressor? I know that some of the old industrial engines were started with compressed air.
It was said that every one that worked on these dredges was...
I'm in the Corvallis area. Custom ATC flatbed with my own interior.

I have a friend here with an ATC on a 6.5 ft pickup bed. But, he's on the road now.
Reminds me of a favorite poem...
The Country
I wondered about you when you told me never to leave a box of wooden, strike-anywhere matches lying around the house because the mice might get into them and start a fire. But your face was absolutely straight when you twisted the lid down on the...
4. The height over the cab is set by the man-door height. ATC can get a shorter door to snug it down. On my ATC Flatbed, I wanted the tallest door, so I have about a 10-12" gap between the cab and camper over head. My Club Cab long bed is never going to fit a container.
I've got a custom 7 x 8.5 ft bed on order. I'll be traveling down to the Sacto area in a month or so and talk to ATC about a build.
Dirty Dog - Wango and I are wondering what you did for camper steps? I'll need something that can be navigated in the dark.
Wish you guys at ATC would answer e-mails from your website. I've got some questions about a full size flatbed camper.
Like, are these truly custom sized? I'd like to make a 7x9' flatbed and have ATC build a camper on it.
