RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hwy 395 Closure

okay - two and a half weeks - not three weeks on the closure the delay is because they can't lay asphalt when it is so cold it is snowing

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hwy 395 Closure

Closure has been extended to Sat., Sept 21 at 5 pm and I sure hope they mean it this time. I have to get some paintings to a gallery in Mammoth. The detour is not a quality road, is easily overwhelmed with traffic and adds an hour to my drive. Kinda funny but not: when this project was being...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yet another fire! Washoe Valley south of Reno Nevada

I've seen it so many times but do we know it was a campfire? I mean - I would love to have at least a little faith in the mental capacity of the human race.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Yet another fire! Washoe Valley south of Reno Nevada

I can see the plume from my front porch. I'm about 90 miles away. I double checked to see if there was a new start between me and groceries. Hwy 395 is closed to the south until Sept 19 but the garden is going all out, there is meat in the freezer and the fishing on the W Walker has been better...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anybody running minimal or no power in their camper?

My first pop-up was a FWC Kestral shell. I used a Coleman propane stove, Buddy heater, ice chest and battery lanterns (until I replaced the interior lights with LED) for twelve years. My sister has him now. My new rig is an AT Bobcat with a stove, heater and solar for the heater fan and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lion in the Yard Last Night

When I was living in Chico a cat was seen cruising town several times - usually by late night bar hoppers. And the Upper Crust Bakery had an ad running for a while that said, "I'll walk 100 miles for an Upper Crust croissant" after the baker heard and then saw the cat pawing at the door at 2 AM...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West do you keep/store anything in camper between uses

I don't keep any food (or toiletries) in the camper. I've had mice (I think they get in through the turnbuckle door) and bears are in the neighborhood in the autumn/early winter. But mine is a shell model with a minimally built interior. My food is kept in plastic tubs, ice chest and canvas...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lion in the Yard Last Night

Backpacking trip several years ago: I was awakened by the scream of a cat. The tent door was unzipped and the dog was headed out until I sat up in my mummy bag and plopped myself on the dog like a giant slug - at which time my husband woke up and asked what was gong on. I told him to zip up the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lion in the Yard Last Night

When we lived in the Sierra foothills we had a regular lion visit - about every third night - throughout the summer months. That scream is something else. I don't know if our neighborhood lion has been seen recently - was known to walk down the street in the mid-morning. The silver lining is...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West do you keep/store anything in camper between uses

Sleeping bag, some extra clothing, kitchenware and at least one gallon jug of water are always in the camper. Fishing gear in the summer, ski gear in the winter, duffle of additional clothes and "important papers" during the fire season.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AWD Vehicles Will Be Cited on 4WD Only NP Roads

Sonora Pass has a marked turnaround between Hwy 395 and the Marine base. Last Oct there was a truck stuck on one of the curves well above there. I asked the Caltrans guy, "don't you have to be able to read to get a drivers license?" He told me the only word the driver seemed to know was "GPS".

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West AWD Vehicles Will Be Cited on 4WD Only NP Roads

I stopped driving to Leavitt Lake after a couple of rain on snow event winters destroyed the road (until about 2011 you didn't need 4WD or even a great deal of clearance) and there was an astronomical increase in use by people who don't seem to have the sense, the tools or the ethics that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Another Solution In Search of a Problem

My T-100 had an extended cab, no second set of doors, not even the hidden ones like the Tacoma has now days. My nephew was sitting back there when I realized his head was bouncing off the rear window as there were no headrests. He was making a huge drama about it (hitting his head on the glass...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Corner Crossing - the right of Public Access to Gov Land vs the rights of Private Owners

I grew up corner crossing. There were three backyards and then the elementary school/ Little League ball fields which was the opposite quadrant from my family home. One of the neighbors seemed to be fine with my brothers climbing a fence but had something to say to me because I was not a boy.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Corner Crossing - the right of Public Access to Gov Land vs the rights of Private Owners

A lie can circle the globe ten times while the truth is getting its pants on. I do have some wonderful neighbors but I think a lot of the people around here spend far too much time watching television and buttering their egos. And while people just want to shrug it off as small town antics I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Corner Crossing - the right of Public Access to Gov Land vs the rights of Private Owners

Yup. But what is so frustrating to me is the people who seem to believe (and then repeat ad naseum) whatever a neighbor with more agenda than ethics tells them is "true". I don't think these people are entirely illiterate and the documents are available for the public to read online as well as...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Corner Crossing - the right of Public Access to Gov Land vs the rights of Private Owners

Smaller parcels, not as much "wealth". After the Walker flood in 1997 several pieces of property along the river were bought by FEMA, turned over to the state who gave them to the county to deal with. A few years later grant money to develop opportunities for physical exercise was available (the...
