RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY roof lift 12V Linear Actuators

I noticed that but opted for the 400lbs. While the 100lbs version maybe faster the time differential I think is relatively small. In addition, with the 400lbs unit you get the benefit of knowing that you can add more solar panels or toys to the top of the camper without worrying about maxing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West MPPT controller at 13.64v - Blue Sea meter at 12.35v - Batteries not charging

Jon, your reply gave me an idea and solved the problem. Turns out it was a loose connection. Your comment "has any wiring work been done" gave me the clue. Every Fall I remove the AGM batteries and put them on a trickle charger. My log showed that the problem occurred right after I installed...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West MPPT controller at 13.64v - Blue Sea meter at 12.35v - Batteries not charging

Not that I know of. The burner had to be replaced but otherwise no. If the charger isn't connected to the battery how did the new one know about the two 12v AGM batteries during set up when I installed it ?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West MPPT controller at 13.64v - Blue Sea meter at 12.35v - Batteries not charging

We have a 2022 Hawk that came with Overland Solar Panel and MPPT charge controller. Recently, I noticed that the MPPT controller display was never showing any PV current (always 0 watts). The MPPT display indicated that the solar panel was at 26.3v. I checked the solar panel and it is putting...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY roof lift 12V Linear Actuators

Well, after lots of research, noodling and work, I have finished the installation of my DIY internal linear actuator similar to the one that can be ordered with new campers. I am happy to say it can be done and yes, it does make lifting the top a lot easier. I think my installation is very...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY roof lift 12V Linear Actuators

The actuator that FWC is using (Progressive) does not have a threaded end. The ends of the actuators are designed to connect with a swivel bracket which has pin that holds the actuator. I thought about using a gen 2 version of the "OnStage" lifter but even when it is compressed its 5" longer...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West DIY roof lift 12V Linear Actuators

Looking for guidance on linear actuators. I have called FWC and they are not selling these as parts for retrofits at this time. They are only putting them in new builds for now. SlowernOlder, thanks for the images but I'm now confused. The Progressive PA-04-30-400 does not expand long enough...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Some hawk dimensions (esp. superduty models)?

I have a 2022 F350 Super Duty with a 2022 FWC Hawk. The distance from the bottom of the camper to the cabover underside is 46.75”. That said, that only leaves about 1” clearance above the shark fin antenna. In addition, my camper sits on a hard rubber Ford bed mat that is .5” thick. So, without...

Have you tried McMaster-Carr for bolt hardware? They have a huge selection and are very quick. I have used them for many projects and been very happy with what they have sent me. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/bolts/

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Names

We named ours "TINY". The truck is a Ford F350 with the Hawk and is anything but tiny... but the places we go are so grand and majestic, that it just shrinks in comparison.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Isotherm refrigerator racks sliding forward

I finally built up enough nerve to try and pop off the door and it just wouldn't budge. I suspect given enough pressure it might, but the thought of me breaking something keep me from doing that. I finally wrapped some thin foam around the rack wire that fits in the groove. Not easily done but...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Isotherm refrigerator racks sliding forward

We have a 2022 Hawk with a side dinette and an Isotherm refrigerator right next to the door. The issue we have is that the racks in the refer keep sliding forward towards the front of the refrigerator. When that happens, stuff falls off the rack in the back and creates a mess. I was thinking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mounting a Hawk on a Ford F250

I did the same move. 2022 Hawk from a F150 to F350. I got some 1/4 aluminum plate and cut four pieces that would fit in between the ribs. The long sides were cut at about a 45 degree angle so they would fit flush against the ribs. The 1/4 aluminum then sits flush with the top of ribs for the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ford F250 Death Wobble

I once worked for Ford on the assembly line and made pick-ups. The issue isn’t Ford specific but solid front axles as has already has been mentioned. All vehicles with solid axles run into this problem. I would have the dealer check the castor setting on the truck. Caster settings can be put...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Rear Truck Tail Light Theft - Does Hawk Block Mounting Screws?

Greetings... Our FWC Hawk is scheduled to be built next month and we hope to get our F350 soon. The truck will be built with Ford BLIS (blind spot information system) built into the tail lights. Based on what I have seen, the Hawk camper will not block the two screws that hold in the rear tail...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New 2017 F350 on Order...

Greetings, I'm new to the forum and also considering a new F350 and Hawk. Sounds like these new trucks are working out great. For those of you that have the new 2017 or 2018 Super Duty (F250 or F350), what is the distance from the top of your camper to the ground? I'm trying to figure out if...
