    Where NOT to park...

Rubbing alcohol and a cloth is very good at removing sap, it's what I use on any surface - metal & plastic, camping gear, skin, or clothing.

    Flexible Solar Panel Recommendations

I have been using a high-quality flexible panel from Global Solar for 6 years, 2 100W on the aluminum roof; very durable, scratch resistant, still outputting almost like new. But it appears that they are no longer available (like several other equivalent brands). Looked at the specs you linked...

    Electric Vent/Fan recommendations?

Good question. I would guess that the problem occurs when the fan is run (at any speed) and current passes through the components of the circuit board; or, maybe the higher voltage stresses the board just as potential - I don't really know. I'm not sure anyone outside of Maxxair knows exactly...

    Electric Vent/Fan recommendations?

Yes. I like to be on the safe side, and I don't mind a small expense now to avoid a larger one later. Seems like Maxxair could easily have avoided this situation with a better design - perhaps they have updated it by now. But as I said above, it's otherwise a very good product in my...

    Electric Vent/Fan recommendations?

a bit late to discussion, but useful info: I have had the 5100K for 3 years and have been very happy with it - it works as advertised and the 10 speeds are really handy. I did also install a small voltage regulator to keep control board happy when solar charging, it was inexpensive and easy to...

Replacing BlueSea relay with Renogy DC-DC charger

astropuppy, assuming that "Ignition wire" is the same as the signal wire that the Renogy devices require to turn on, I just used a splice from incoming hot to the DC-DC. I can do that since I already have an isolator installed up front at the engine, and a cutoff switch inline on that signal wire.

Replacing BlueSea relay with Renogy DC-DC charger

I have the Renogy 20A DC-DC single function (no solar), and It's been working very well for about a year; it gets only light use since my solar (separate CC) covers most of my charging. Initial problems for me turned out to be my truck's factory wiring which was not adequate for this device...

Anti vibration mounts for Solar Panel and Dirt Roads

    >>I think that kudo should have gone to ckent a grammarian's nit: "kudos" is singular (not plural), from the Greek "kydos" just a friendly addition to the thread :)

    Maxx Air Fan

I don't have the product info for mine, but most any reliable device will work (some are V adjustable). Definitely test your installation to make sure it's working as intended (my first one made by Drok was faulty.) As mentioned just above, be sure to size the amps correctly. I put mine on...

    Maxx Air Fan

Rich, I posted above about that reported issue with >14V messing with the circuit board. There were several written and video accounts, couple of years old by now. Maxxair was contacted and the problem was apparently verified. May have been isolated incidents; issue may also have been...

    Maxx Air Fan

just a couple of points: - MaxxAir has 10 speeds (vs 3 for Fantastic) - makes a difference! - it also has a sturdier and more stable cover bracket system - way less rattling in the wind (in addition to blocking rain when open) - I don't have the remote (not necessary for me) and find the...

    Wave 3 Heater

Also, see user manual here: https://www.manualslib.com/products/Camco-Olympian-Wave3-3877305.html Has guidelines for clearances and other important safety info.

    Wave 3 Heater

Anything closer than about 12" to the front will tend to get hot and risk burning, melting, etc. Mine is near the floor under the sink/counter and I'm always conscious of my (nylon) pant legs. If you're lying or sitting that close it might be risky sleeping there. Wave heaters, however, are...

Flexible panels direct mount to the roof.

Couple of thoughts, based on my own experience and others': - 3M VHB is very sticky and reliable for lightweight flexible panels, as long as your roof is suitable & clean (mine is bare aluminum). There are a number of varieties of VHB, research and find the appropriate one for your materials...

Low maintenance Suspension mods - timbren / helper spring / other?

Roadmaster Active Suspension https://activesuspension.com/ I paid $430 for the pair in 2017; they are vehicle-specific. The springs mount horizontally above the leafs as a helper. New rear shocks are Rancho, but upgrade from GM OEM; don't have the model #.

Low maintenance Suspension mods - timbren / helper spring / other?

Here's what I posted in another thread some years ago, and I'm still happy with the Roadmaster coil springs. They are adjustable. Assume they are still available, and were reasonably priced. Also recently upgraded my rear shocks and ride is very good on paved road and off. In the meantime...

Installing DC-DC Charger in 2015 Fleet FD

Some info to add to the OP's comment in first post: "The killer reason to go with the Victron DC-DC Charger – no need for an engine-running sense wire from the camper to the truck. Both the Redarc and the Renogy appear to need one" Don't need to run a separate engine-sense wire if you already...

Input on Possible Solar Setup for FWC Raven

In this thread I didn't see mention of lift type - electric or manual. Anyone considering the heavier glass/aluminum panels might want to test the extra weight first if you have a manual lift. I have 3 thin flexible panels, two high quality and one average, for total extra weight of about 12...

How much temperature increase Wave3 heater?

There are many variables in heating a space, any judgement really needs to specify intended volume, hard or soft camper sides, ambient temps, expectations, personal comfort levels. I use a Wave3 in a small insulated-fabric popup (5.5 ft truck bed with overcab), and rarely park in less than 20F...

DC to DC Battery Charger (Newer Auto Stop Trucks)

Addressing the sense wire: with a Renogy it's not necessary to run an extra ignition-on sense wire from the engine if you already have (or will install) some other manual and/or automatic switch (relay, solenoid, etc). I have the Renogy 20A DCDC and spliced a short wire from the incoming...

    Help with Solar..

I have two Global Solar 100W panels on my Phoenix, new in 2016. They are excellent panels, very tough (withstood golf-ball hail). Global Solars cannot be compared with any of the cheaper flexible ones that get the bad reviews we see. They are probably the priciest flexible panels on the...

Dc-Dc chrg control for solar and alternator management of Lithim batt.

I can (tentatively) recommend the Renogy Onboard DC-DC charger. I've just installed the 20-amp version. I already have a good solar system, all I needed was a dependable DC charger for those infrequent times when solar is not enough. There aren't many reasonably priced automotive DC chargers...

    Wave 3 Heater

At this point I'd agree with John. A manufacturer I contacted said they were a bit hard to work with and not very responsive. I'll probably not follow up on it.

    Wave 3 Heater

Does anyone have a PDF of the current PlatCat heater manual? Model 3P12B, 3000BTU (but any manual will help). I can't get a reply from the company. I'd like to check if I have room to install one in my truck camper. However currently I'm a satisfied user of the Wave 3. I use it occasionally...

Has anyone ever tried AAA (triple A) for Insurance?

I'm in Colorado with AAA, and starting about last year they removed their 20K value limit from truck campers, so since I already use them for home and vehicles, I added my Phoenix. Reasonable premium and deductible. In June I made a claim for damage to my awning & truck, and they responded...
