RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Victron Energy Video ... How to not blow up your alternator when charging a lithium battery

Could someone explain why they disconnected the BMS? Current limiting there would be a much less expensive solution especially considering that that battery appears to retail for about $3k. Plus who sets up a rig like that?

I think they just gave their employees a 6500.00, or maybe it was 9500.00, settlement bonus so that probably adds up.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Anyone thinking about a new Truck

I think the original poster is off by maybe a factor of ten on his timetable and even that would take some luck. A few things. Fuel for ICE vehicles will stay cheap as it's pretty easy to make so people will keep using ICE cars and buying them. The rest of the world can't afford electric cars or...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Satpaq satellite adapter to phone

I can't believe the FCC approved this but I just looked and they have for, from what I can tell, the first 50k units. I wonder if it can cook your breakfast. This thing might have a very weird coverage map as the places you most want to use it might be places you can't. Super cool though and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West KIMBO Campers

I like them. An aluminum monocoque should be lighter and stronger that just about anything not made of carbon. Even if there is condensation the camper has nowhere for it to get absorbed into so no harm.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge losing Propane charge

I'm still voting the orifice as it often presents exactly as the OP is stating. It might be a Midwest thing but it's always the first place I look. Tiny tiny tiny spiders or maybe some sort of mite make the webbing at the back side of the orifice. The way these burners are designed the orifice...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Fridge losing Propane charge

If it's not lighting it could also be a blockage of his propane orifice just before the burner. Little bugs like to make their nest there.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Finally, the Palimino Rouges EB-1 and EB-2

I was hoping it actually was Rouge and not Rogue . That said why are they so heavy? And why use that rood material? And as long as I'm asking why the fiberglass exterior when you're building a camper that's supposedly light weight? I wonder if they would just sell a frame with canvas...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Building a portable Power Box - last updates

This box is very cool but thinking out loud I wonder how it would have worked if you separated the box from the battery. The box could be used with any battery that was handy as long as it was the correct chemistry, even in the camper so you wouldn't have to hard wire a bunch of stuff that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West What walkie talkie sets do you use?

Licensed ham here. I'm pretty sure the FCC just raised the power limits of FRS to 2 watts on most of their 'channels' so we should be seeing a whole slew of new, more powerful, FRS gear out there. Not that the power matters and the new rules don't allow swappable antennas on anything but the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Have 160W Solar- Think I need More

Does "2-way fridge" automatically mean 110v/12v now? I ask because I always thought it meant 110v/propane in which case he should have plenty of solar. If I were the OP I would look at trying a MPPT controller and then think about 'aiming' the panel. A lot of people get by just fine with a 160...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Think someone would steal a camper in the city?

Hasn't there been reports of stolen campers fairly recently here on WTW? I seem to remember a couple, both in the PNW where the owners were hoping to refind their campers, which then turned into 'we need to be tougher on crime' threads or maybe one turned into a 'back in my day' thread..

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hatchet?

Wow, ten years in and nobody has mentioned to the OP, who may have passed by now and if so rest in peace, that the best hatchet ever is a Granfors Bruk. Kind of pricey but they make all others look like junk including the Fiskers style 'tools' which are mere fashion accessories. If you're lucky...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West ATVs in Canyonlands and other Utah National Parks

Just curious but what sort of vehicles are these quads licensed as in UT? Here in MO they are considered motorcycles and can be used anywhere a 'street legal' motorcycle can be ridden. I'm not sure if they need to acquire DOT certified headlights, brake lights, or mufflers but if the feds looked...

I'm pretty sure the idea that a bunch of millennials are full timing in RV's and tiny houses is a myth propagated on youtube and instagram.. But, yeah, I hope the new owners somehow figure out a way to keep things alive for people willing to spend $100K or so on a truck camper. And, more...
