RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Headlights and air bags.

The headlight adjustment on our 2017 F350 is super easy. I had the exact same experience with useless high beams and people flashing me on low. A few minutes in the dusk with a screwdriver and the truck pointed toward the side of the barn and it was good to go. Our camper is a permanent...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Electrical basics and upgrading to lithium!

Question. We are running 6 awg from the truck battery to the dcdc. The existing 36” wire that could be used to go from the dcdc charger to the camper battery looks to be an 8. It goes through some verrrry deep cabinetry. Do we need that 30” run from the 30 amp dcdc to the camper battery to be...

Three ideas for your improvements list. We did them after a couple of years with our FB Hawk and wish that we had done them right away. Swap out the standard table for a Lagune table with a rectangular top. Much better performance and flexibility. Commit to east-west sleeping and leave the...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Have I lost my mind?

From what you say about the vent cap, it sounds like the teeth on the lifter mechanism have worn down. Several of us with hawks have experienced this, probably due to vent lid chattering in the airflow over the front end. Mine used to start the day closed and finish the day open. As it...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Have I lost my mind?

Welcome to a world of fun! We have a 2017 Hawk Flatbed that has housed us for over 500 nights and 70,000 miles. To address two points in your last post: At 5’ 11”, I can sit up with my neck scrunched, but not all the way up. There is plenty of room to prop a pillow up to coffee drinking...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Curtain Slide Type (Photo)

FWC mailed us the tape. Camping is better with paisley curtains! PS. We also put in a longer track so that we could push the curtains farther off the window. Big light enhancement on our fb Hawk. Vinyl tracks are on Amazon.

This may not be relevant to your situation, but I revived a failed igniter by cleaning the electrode with a bit of sandpaper. Good luck!

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Free for a reason- Hawk restoration/renovation

Great project! On the exterior flood light question, this Dream Lighting fixture is working great for us. It’s mounted with 3m heavy duty 2 sided tape with a bead of silicone around the perimeter. It’s a pricier option, but there’s two to a bundle and the robust low profile aluminum housing...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Strange Water Leak, Flatbed Grandby, Seeking Advice

I have had water slowly drip for hours from the space between the flatbed itself and the camper. Mine has rubber mats that slow things down. Now I put the front wheels on a small rise to drain it. For me, the source of the water is the drain spigot, which dribbles out the last several...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Isotherm refrigerator racks sliding forward

I have nearly the same fridge and discovered that the door pops off its hinge pin when you lift it on the hinge side and swing out the bottom. At first I panicked that I had broken something, but it popped back on. Now, we pull it off for big cleans. Go slow, your fridge may differ.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

An idea that might address one big floppy spot is to loosen the solar panel, position some hard rubber pieces (or something) so that they get pinched between the panel and roof frame. Retighten the solar panel to trap the rubber pieces. I can’t picture what to use, but the right material...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West FWC Single Sheet Roof "Tin Canning"...Why?

We have the same issue on our 2017 hawk flatbed. When I wash the roof with a long handled brush, the aluminum is so floppy that I have always assumed that there is no attachment to the frame other than where the tracks pinch it down.. John

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Lithium Upgrade

Welcome! I would not hesitate to go with the upgrade to a lithium system. I, too, am pretty lost on diy electricity (aka “devil spark”) and would choose to have it done as part of the package. If you have just discovered this forum and are nearing production, I would urge you to poke...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ghost In My Roof Vent

If mine had not healed, I was going to put a small glued anchor on the interior of the plastic vent cap and run a piece of monofilament through the screen and have a doohickey on the end that would hook to something on the interior trim of the fan housing. I think that would be enough to keep...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ghost In My Roof Vent

In the older thread, I reported that my accidental shift to the domed version of the lid solved the problem. Can verify roughly 15000 miles later that we’re still good. I can only guess that it changes the wind dynamics. Technically, the dome is not a direct replacement for the flat, but I...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Here is how to prevent getting locked out of camper

Mine failed and locked me out. The key just spun. Two hours in St. George to get it drilled out by a kindly locksmith. So very lucky that we were near a town. If you have not removed the latch bolt as shown above, take a lesson from me: Twenty minutes well spent.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Attaching thermal pack on both ends

We just added 1” square tabs of adhesive-backed Velcro to the pop-up vinyl. There are two at each of the four upper ends. In each case, one is a few inches in from the corner and the other close to the end of the liner. These grip the existing Velcro on the liner so everything stays together...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any flatbed owners care to share how you organize the galley cabinets?

Our dinette bins got much more usable when we switched to a small table on a lagune mechanism and ditched the big original cushions in favor of simple hinged tops. We organize stuff in various boxes and bags—it’s a bit of a jumble but it all works out. I’ve often thought about creating a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Any flatbed owners care to share how you organize the galley cabinets?

That’s an awesome drawer! We use small plastic bins that fit the space and hold their designated items. After 5 years, we can do a blind reach and come out with what we need with just a bit of feeling around. No knives or forks allowed. But, now, I see a drawer in my future! Nice work.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Do you use water tank for drinking water?

A couple of tablespoons for us. We add the bleach to nearly full tank, fill the lines and hot water tank, drive it around, let it sit for 24 hrs, drain, and rinse. We’ve done that each spring for 5 years and never had an issue with bugs or bad taste.
