RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ovrlnd Campers

The focus now is on shorter trips being more nimble, getting further off-road. . . It is impt for me since I may get a Tacoma. Same here. We agonized about changing our Tacoma out — 11 years old (’09), but only 72K miles and well built for anywhere. Problem is payload. Even under our GVWR and...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ovrlnd Campers

Stokeme PM’d and asked me to post up some feedback since I’ve had my Ovrlnd for almost 2 years (in Jan '23): Bottom line is we love it, and would definitely do this again! Fits our needs very well and has had zero problems. I’ll mention a few specific areas and happy to respond on anything...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Ovrlnd Campers

Actually you can get all sorts of windows in an Ovrlnd including lift up or down hatches, sliding, Tern Overland, even the Terns in a flip up hatch. One of many great things about the Ovrlnds is that Jay makes them semi-custom, and is very open to requests and mods within reason. Options...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Batwing awning gap

Post #334 here describes a gutter I made using awning channel and keder strip. Works really well. https://expeditionportal.com/forum/threads/ovrlnd-campers-only-post-your-ovrlnd-camper-build-here-or-a-link-to-your-build-thread-to-inspire-others.229680/page-23#post-3060515

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Project M - Interior Dust issue, plus M’s pros/cons? Are there any Project M owners on WTW? Thumbs u

One other thought: I’ve found having on board air to be a big help in combating the dust. We’re up in UT red dust a lot and we use the compressor at lunch and upon reaching camp religiously to blast off the rear of the camper and tailgate. Otherwise half of the dust we kept out with the PPV...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Project M - Interior Dust issue, plus M’s pros/cons? Are there any Project M owners on WTW? Thumbs u

Thanks MDR, it’s been a fun build, and we’ve loved it. We do get great flow through ventilation with the PPV while stationary with the Max fan exhausting air out and everything closed up. I thought briefly about putting a 12v computer fan on the PPV, but haven’t found it necessary. Big fan...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Project M - Interior Dust issue, plus M’s pros/cons? Are there any Project M owners on WTW? Thumbs u

See post #32 for the dust reduction components of my Ovrlnd camper build. Not a Project M but its a bed rail mounted popup topper like the M. I get nearly zero dust with the combination of obsessive bed sealing, positive pressure vent and careful tailgate gasketing on my Tundra...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

This is another really good and fairly practical discussion on aerodynamics, though not specific to truck campers. I really like Superfast Matts videos, he tends to cut through the unnecessary stuff.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

I have some practical experience with aerodynamic design as I raced recumbent bikes for awhile that had both front and rear fairings. A properly set up bike was noticeably faster or easier (better mpg, if you like) to move. The big differences came from the rear fairings - essentially a...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Wind deflectors and Aero mods for fuel economy.

[Page 66 of the above link has a paragraph about the vortex generators. Excellent link, thank you! Your welcome. FWIW, I put a row of AirTabs across the back of the roof of my Ovrlnd Camper as a cheap experiment. Didn't expect any MPG increase, but hoped for better dust control on my rear...

You may want to nerd out to this: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/api/citations/20120000497/downloads/20120000497.pdf It’s NASA’s report on their research into truck aerodynamics …. I kid you not. Also this: scroll down to post 248 for some real interesting graphics illustrating drag coefficients for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New Pop-up Campers!

I have had an Ovrlnd camper on my 3rd Gen Tundra since February 2021. My wife and I really love it. We just came back from our fourth trip in it. This time it was a very rugged, and brushy off camber trail, and the thing was rock solid on it. They are very stout! Things to know: these are...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West WTB Shell vs Complete Camper

You might also consider an Ovrlnd poptop. We love ours. It’s essentially the ultimate shell, as they don't offer built-ins. Very light (my fullsize with multiple add-ons is just 360lbs. The mid sizes are around 275. Very stout, impeccably welded aluminum frame. Not a slide in...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Adhesive and sealants - products and applications

Some great info here! FWIW, my Ovrlnd Camper popup builder uses and recommended to me 3M 540 sealant/adhesive. Works great other than the limited open life others have mentioned. supposed to be very UV resistant— we’ll see how it goes in Phoenix … i called 3M on recommendations for VHB that...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to FWC — maintenance to be expected?

Are you running lithiums and using the “smart” version that isolates? I really want to avoid running an ignition switch wire as it seems like a very difficult task with the flatbed version. Seems like the Orion Smart TR version with isolation would accomplish this?

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to FWC — maintenance to be expected?

Thanks all! Helpful and reassuring. I too am a big 303 fan - that stuff is amazing. Kept a vinyl cover on a previous tonneau like new for years in the sun. Think I’ll at least write down a check list to remind me on some things (like latches!) till they become second nature. Luckily, the rig...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New to FWC — maintenance to be expected?

I am about to pull the trigger on a flatbed Hawk rig that I’ve lucked into. It’s a 2017 installed early January 2018 by AT, with only a few trips on it. The owner got most all of the upgrades, including the cassette toilet. He also improved the electrical with a progressive dynamics replacement...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Center of gravity question

Thanks Rando and WilltheThri11, helpful info. The rig I’m buying is on a well dialed in ‘12 Power Wagon (2 years before they went to rear coils) with HD leaf springs and airbags, so hopefully pretty stable and tough …but sure bulky compared to my Tacoma! Not looking to rock crawl, but as a...
