Hi,
Just about to pull the cord and order a replacement canvas from Phoenix.
Apparently the canvas supports the top when in place.
I'm having a hard time visualizing how to build a support structure to hold up the roof while removing and replacing the canvas.
Seems like an interior support system is the only way to hold up the roof and stay out of the way while installing the new canvas.
Anybody out there done this kind of job before and could offer some tips.
Seems like any canvas replacement on most popup truck campers would need the kind of setup.
Thanks, Bob

Bob,

I have no experience with Phoenix campers, but I’m having a had time visualizing the canvas supporting the top. My guess is the canvas is supported by the top, and also connected to the bottom. The lift mechanism is what should support the top. When replacing the canvas, some stabilization might be required, but that shouldn’t be too difficult.

Best advice is to speak directly to the folks at Phoenix.

Thanks for the reply.

Spoke with Rob at Phoenix already.
Didn't quite get what he was saying.
Was looking for another POV. (Or pics)

The front and back canvas actually keeps the top from tipping to one side or the other and destroying the lift mechanism.

IMO, Rob should provide some detailed guidance on replacing that fabric.

Here’s a SWAG (Scientific Wild A** Guess) at how to proceed. Since it’s side to side wobble, and the front and rear are what provide that stability, you might consider some Rube Goldberg engineering, such as using U clamps to hold a small piece of plywood that’s roughly the width of the door, at the door and at the raised top.

I have no earthly clue if it would work. Alternatively, appropriately sized plywood and secured plywood on the inside.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid for it…😇

Please do document your work in a build thread so that others can receive the benefit of your work.
