Well it has been about 18 months since the last trip with the FWC. We finally got a chance to pull it our of the garage and load it in the truck.

First night was on hwy 299 on the Trinity River. Enjoyed the camping so much, didn't pull out the camera that night. Forest service site with a view of the river. Had the complete campground to our self's.

Second night was at one of our favorite spots on the Lost Coast - Mattole Beach. This was our 4th time to this campground. We didn't have the area to our self's, but there were only about 3 other campers. Started raining while we were walking the beach and didn't let up through the night.

Our third night we planned to find someplace near Fort Bragg, though not sure where. The first place we passed was Westport - Union Landing State Park. Normally we would not stay here as it is full of RVs. But this time, there were only a few other campers, including another FWC. Never met anyone as it was raining hard. We picked site 92, made camp and stayed inside to watch the waves on the beach and the rain.

The next morning on the way home, while driving through the Anderson Valley, we both vowed not to let 18 months go by again.

Nice pics! Nice rig. Really nice to have cover in the rain. Up here Seattle way, that happens a lot. A good chance to do a lot of reading and just relax. I notice the call, antennas. Run much radio from the mobile shack?

Wow, what a site right next to the ocean. Great pics. May have to look for that next week when I head up.

Great pics and write-up. I was heading south when this front hit and only had a little rain on my way home. Thanks for posting.

Thanks to all for the complements on the photos. My old Nikon D70 still takes some nice photos even though it is long obsolete. It also helps to have a great subject - the sky just opened up for these photos.

N0XLW,

This last night the rain was driven by a wind, so yes, we stayed inside, enjoyed each others company, some nice wine, and a great meal. Seems we never get much time to just talk anymore.

I have a Yaesu FT8800 dual band mounted in the cab. Don't use it a lot when traveling with my wife, but it's there if we need it.

Don't knock the D-70.. I still use the old '70 almost as much as my D-300...I've got over 12,000 clicks on the '70 without a single hickup. When I need a lightweight DSLR I take the '70 with the 18-200 zoom...perfect carry about rig.

Not knocking it, still love it, just keep dreaming over that D300 of yours...Have about 16,000 clicks, but it did die of the blinking LED of death years ago. No problem since. I have the same 18-200 lens as my normal walk around, but the photos in this thread were taken with a Tokina 12-24.

KG6VMX:

Bill, I have a dual band plus a ic-706 in the cab....when i am in camp, I will often remote the heads into the camper. Nice. Do a lot more listening than transmitting, but fun to run the radio at night and listen the the circus on 75/80. I also use a yaesu 817 sometimes. Like to use that in the back of the camper and run QRP. A good way to spend a rainy camping trip.

In fact, I run more radio in the camper than at home. something about free time.

Good pics
