I usually spend a week each Spring an Fall on the Arizona strip. Last week I drove over 400 miles of dirt and gravel roads exploring some of the places I haven't seen before.
The roads were anything from smooth packed dirt, to washboard gravel, to just barely there two tracks. Saw a total of three other people in five days, had two blowouts and hiked to some great rock art sites.
I now have new BFG AT 10 plys on the truck.
If you really want to get away the strip is the place. Just come prepared with everything you need to get out of trouble by yourself as it is some of the most remote country left in the lower 48.

Q and A

Hi,
Herr42-- The pictograph is most likely Archaic any where from 7000 to 1000 years old, it could be older. Rock art is hard to date, this is similar to the Barrier Canyon style such as in Horseshoe Canyon in Canyonlands National Park.

SunMan--- I should have said I tore the sidewalls up, not really blowouts, just three inch cuts in the sidewalls. They were the stock Goodyear Wranglers that came on the truck, wern't really much good for the kind of roads I travel. Lot's of sharp lava out there on the strip.

Brett13---- Sorry that is the only picture of this site I would put up on the internet. I am sure working for the BLM you know some sites just need to be protected.

Nice pics, I just came past Lee's Ferry, through Fredonia and then headed North. Interesting "Lee" was sent to take care of the ferry as he was wanted in connection withthe Mountaion Meadow massacre. The feds caught up with him after a coupkle years and he was charged with murder.

I also had one tire go out within 40 miles of starting my journey to Alaska and after evaluating I had all the old C load rated ones replaced with 10 ply E's. Tread was OK but the tread had separated and I didn't want to mess with it and further. I did have my HiLift and a breaker bar so that helped.

I don't work for BLM, someone else here does. But I know what you mean and understand. I was recently at a nice spot and up on the canyon wall I noticed a smilely face in the red rock- made out of bullet holes. Some people.

How about more pics of the trip itself though?

Sorry

Sorry my mistake.
I didn't take many other pictures of the roads or campsites. They all pretty much look alike out there and I was too busy driving most of the time.

As long as you had a good time! I need to get out that way, it's one area I haven't explored much.
