Beat the Tow Truck Again!

A bygone era............... wait 'til the end. Around 42 years ago I was invited to accompany a Model A club over the crest of the Sierra Nevada down to a big group event in Carson City. It was a lot of fun, but let's just say, it was not without mishaps. But, it was a glimpse into how resourceful these folks are with their old machines.

That's great Monty. brought back memories. My wife's grandmother, at age 19 and pregnant (!) drove with her husband across the US from Kentucky the 'scenic way' down to the south west then north to Oregon in 1929 ! Dirt roads! (where she gave birth) then a few months later drove on back. I have a few photos of their trip somewhere. I think in a Chevrolet? I'll consult the archives! Tough people indeed. I can not imagine.... thinking .... hope there's gasoline up this way!

Reminds me of days back when I was commuting between my job in Trona, California (west of Death Valley) and Big Pine. I was heading home after my week and got mixed in with a group of Citroen Traction Avants widely spread out over miles through Panamint Valley. The group was from Europe and on their annual Tracbar rally, which is run annually all over the world. At the junction of CA190 east of Panamint Springs Resort was people posing with their cars. A French TV crew was also there filming and I inadvertently found myself being interviewed on French TV.

My dad, born in 1921, recalls seeing the first 'motorcar' to appear in his home area, which was the south side of the Raft River mountains in NE Utah. He was 7 or 8 at the time. Even the road near their farm was constructed using horse pulled road graders.

Rob they were defiantly the "greatest" generation.
Hearty folks indeed. My grand parents were "sailors" .
Took the boat from Italy back around the start of the 20th century.

I took this photo in 2015 of a Model T race car that stopped into the Carquest that I was working at before I retired. I don't remember the details, but do recall that they were travelling the Western states in that car. They stopped in, if I remember correctly, for some coolant and oil.

I found one of the photos. I believe it was taken at Mount Rainier.
