After what seems like two months of smoke and haze in the air our sky has finally cleared and returned to what we've come to expect in this area. I can't tell you how great it is to look out the windows and see our view look like this again. Please excuse the blurriness in the long distance shots, the cheap digital camera just doesn't handle them well.

Blue Skies!!!

Yes it is great to see the blue skies again.

Yesterday went up to Mt. Tallac and had a great view. I ended up carring a 60 pound Black Lab in my daypack for the last mile and a half. Asprey packs are awsome!

Here is a quick low res. pano from up top. And the second is double scale for hieght.(just playing).

Patrick,

Great pano, Emerald Bay, Fallen Leaf Lake, Cascade Lake, and Tahoe all in one shot, can't say I've seen that view before. Up or down Tallac with a dog on your back, very impressive. Unfortunately those day are over for me, with back problems, etc. I can't make the longer hikes anymore and have to stick to shorter, easier stuff. Fortunately we've found lots of them over the years that are almost as rewarding. Thanks for sharing and keep it up.

You should have waved.

Hi Patrick,

If you turned around, you could have seen me on Mt Ralston. Here is a photo of Tallac from Mt Ralston. Actually took this about two weeks ago. Hiked the Carpenter Ridge from Sagehen campground this weekend. Getting ready for the big one - Mt. whitney in two weeks.

Yes, they had some great weather in Tahoe this weekend.

We spent Sat. & Sun. around the Incline Village area.

The entire Tahoe area is awesome for views.

I don't think I've seen the lake that "BLUE" looking in awhile.

Nice view Ted,

Are you doing Whitney as a day hike or three day trip? You'll have fun.

Labor Day week doing our 9 day backpacking trip (mostly cross country) and then we will be taking our friend that is turning 71 up to the top of Whitney the weekend of the 13th as a three day trip.

Baby Socks

As a note about the Black Lab.

I do a side crosscounty drop off the top of Tallac to a old trail. This trail is exposed to the hot sun and lots of HOT rocks. His pads were done with the hot rocks and the other lab was not far behind. So we droped him in the pack and BOY was he HAPPY.

I talked with a friend yesterday and he uses baby socks when the heat is too much for the pads of thier feet.

So if your dogs pads are hot try baby socks.

Thanks DLN,

Get you a friend to carry your load:thumb:

At least it was the last mile and a half with the load. I ploped the pack in the back of the 4-runner and he came out of the pack and layied down and did not move the whole way home. The owner said he had to pick him out of the back. They ate and did not move the whole night.

Some days I feel that way:D

pv,

Like maybe a horse or a mule or an ATV. On second thought I really don't want to be around any of them, so I'll stick to what I've got, bad back, hips, knees, and a great hiking partner. Enjoy.

Whitney hike

Are you doing Whitney as a day hike or three day trip?

Actually, two days. Trail camp Sunday night, summit and pack out Monday. Kind of new to this hiking thing. Did Half Dome last year and got the bug. I have been training but didn't think to try carrying my dog in my pack.;) Since we are taking the camper and spending several nights enroute, I'll have to post a report - with photos of course.

Sounds great Ted.

Do the Summit and come back down to Trail Camp...Have Dinner...Then hike out. Hop in the truck and drive down to the Alabama Hill and spend the night.

Treat your water very well at Trail Camp:thumb:
