Bottom of Cabover Peeling...looking for repair suggestion

I am looking for some suggestions on how I can repair the cracking and peeling plastic from the bottom of the cabover. If there is another thread on this, please let me know. I have not been able to find anything.

The wood appears to still be in good shape so I don't need to replace that. I just need to protect it so it does not get any water damage. I live in Central Oregon so there is not a lot of moisture but this past weekend it really started to peel.

Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

If it was my camper, I would call FWC. They will know the best options.

After you call...I really want to know what they say. I have a 2011 Eagle. The cab over is painted not plastic. If yours is painted or not... I would use a random orbital sander to lightly (220 grit) remove all loose paint or "plastic" ... I would use a Bin Primer to seal the exposed wood.(after washing with TSP to remove mold and being sure it is real dry) ... Maybe two coats. Thereafter I would use and exterior paint with a mildew additive to repaint.

nmhurley, it would be helpful if you provided more information. What year is your camper? As Buckland stated above, painted or plastic on the underside? The more information the better chance for good responses. Thanks, jd

My "Bedboard" was in bad shape, that plastic is no more than a thin layer of sticky vinyl, like contact paper. Most repairs described here on WTW use a good quality paint. Probably best to remove the film and the remaining adhesive before painting.



As the bedboard was also sagging in the middle, I opted for replacement using skid-guard plywood sourced from ATC. Marty at ATC cut it to size and rounded the corners for me, removing most of my opportunity to screw up that expensive piece of plywood! More details in my build thread.


PokeyBro opted for replacement in his rebuild, using materials from a salvaged doner camper.

ColoradoCJ also opted for new plywood, but used a 2-part polymide epoxy to finish it. Bummer, pics might be broken in his rebuild thread.

As a note, my camper is a 2003 Hawk.

I contacted Four Wheels service department and this is what they had to say.
I am sorry to see the peeling problem. There were a few years that was an issue. The good thing is that the material is fine, but cosmetically it looks bad. The best fix, this what we do, is peel off all of the loose material you can. If it is still attached well, just take a fine grit sand paper and feather the edges an gently scuff the smooth surface. Buy a good white exterior paint and repaint the entire surface.

Seems easy enough, that's my plan.

I did a quick repair the past couple days and it looks pretty good. We will see how it holds up.
