this wasn't a camper trip but we usually take some spring hikes at the west side pinnacles national monument.this spring there are a nesting pair that laid an egg ,the first time this happened in 100 years at the pinnacles.the chic hatched about 10 days ago.if anyone is in that area it is worth a visit, but do it before the weather gets to hot .its about a 2 mile hike to the vantage point.the trail isn't extreme but lots of switch backs.these guys are awesome.frank

Black friday.Drove the Big Sur coast and stopped at our favorite viewing spot. There they were right on on cue.If you make it down the coast at mile marker 42 through 38 is a good place to find them. What magnificent birds.Hope all had a good turkey day

I've gotta go there -- or wherever else they're found -- and see those great birds some time soon. Never have.

Thanks for sharing, Frank.

There is a Condor population on the Arizona Strip in the House Rock Valley area. The Condors move around a bit but can sometimes be seen around the Navajo bridge in Marble Canyon.

The area south of Big Sur is a good place to see them. For the next few months the seals come in to the rockery below the cliffs and the condors clean up any dead pups and whatever.Hope anyone headed down that way gets to see them. They put on a great show for us.They gave a lot of fly-buys.They seem to have an interest in us.

There are some campgrounds along the area that you could use.

Happy viewing.

Frank

Thanks for the condor photos, Frank.

The last time I saw one of those was just above the South Rim of the Grand Canyon about five years ago. The big bird was just coasting in the updraft 10 ft above the trees at the start of the Bright Angel Trail. The NP Rangers said that the many of the original population that was planted in the Canyon has moved on, north into the AZ Strip and Utah, as dsrtrat says.
