Riley's Human
I got a nice early start on this trip. Had breakfast at the Samoa cookhouse. Not vegetarian friendly thankfully. Headed up 299 to 96. I skipped the dirt road that Cort recommeded because it had rained the day before but after taking another dirt road off the Salmon I think it would have been fine. Oh well.
The Hoopa reservation was pretty much what I expected. It was cold so not many people out. Headed up the Klamath to Somes bar and turned off onto the county road that heads up the Salmon River. You learn a lot about the floods of 1955 and 1964 following any of the rivers up here. As I'm reading the sign just past the turnoff and looking way down to the river it mentions where I'm standing was 12 feet under water. Thats an amazing amount of water. Does things like this.
Looking at the levels right now you can't even tell where the class five and four rapids are let alone imagine levels that incredibly high.
Very picturesque country.
The sign just doesn't do the road justice. Do not take your sports car up here to enjoy a nice twisty road. The rocks here just go on for miles. In some spots I was truly nervous about getting hit, hence I didn't get many pics.
The drive down highway 3 is also recommeded. Just enough snow to make it picturesque from the previous day without making the roads impassable.
