I pulled my bed out for the first time teh other day so as to have a hard back for reading in bed.
Then I wondered if I could just leave it out when I pop down? Can't think of a reason not to. Am I missing something?

Leave it out most of the time.

We have a memory foam topper on our Hawk mattress, which means that we always travel with the bed extended. I don't think you are missing anything, however, when you arrive at your destination and want to pop the top, you will first need to slide the bed back in to obtain the correct leverage to make the top rise. The top comes down easily with the bed extended but does not go up easily unless the bed is pushed forward . . . . at least that has been my experience.

Hey Dawn, I'm 6'4" but I sleep fetal. I just figured out I can sleep just fine with the bed un-extended. It simplifies things in my already simplified world. "course, I don't have two dogs sleeping with me. That would change things.

I always sleep with it not extended, cuz I'm short and can lie down full without side to side, I just tried extending it to have the hard back for reading in bed. :)

Argos sleeps at my feet, to one side, and Sully sleeps curled up near my head .

Lady Bug, I suspect your Fleet, and my Bobcat are similar in size and bed layout. I always travel with the bed extended,so to pop the top, the first step after latches and raising the rear is to pull the cushions down, slide the extension in, then lift the top. For more floor space when moving around inside, I typically leave it pushed it with cushions moved to the bed and out of the way. Reverse steps to drop the roof.

Oh, Pugsly! She used to borrow under the covers and sleep curled up against my belly. I loved that so.

Sully seems a bit discumbobulated by this all and when I sit down, he wants on my lap. I love that too, but i feel badly that he's out of sorts.

As for the bed, those are good ideas!

We are still waiting for our Fleet, so a question. Is it big enough to use without the extended bed? We were thinking of taking it out and saving the weight. We are 5'7" and 5'2".

We do not bring the extra mattresses with us on normal weather trips. I do slide the bed out to full queen before closing . I just move pillows and blankets onto that empty area for storage while moving. In COLD weather trips my wife brings the extra mattress pads... she leans them up against front wall. She says it insulates and she sleep better :)

Hi rubberlegs!
I'm not quite 5'4" and I just fit lying side to side.

Yah, I don't have the extra mattresses with me when I extend to read, I just extend and let my feet on the edge. Makes for a good place to put the dog water dish and my cell phone! Ha!

I'm 5'8" measured generously :) Dogs are funny. Yuma always slept by my feet but Riley prefers to sleep down below.
