Welcome to the site.On your question about the surfboards on the roof.
I see you don't have the roof lifter helpers.
For many years I carried a 12' fiberglass canoe about 50+ #. Plus solar panels .
I made a special rack to carry it.I didn't have any problem lifting the top.
I installed 40# Suspra roof struts.Worked perfect.

You should invest in a set of the roof lifters.It will make the raising a lot easier.
They are very easy to install.There is a whole thread about them,you will find it in
Truck, campers ,gear, forums. Under truck campers/sticky threads.
It was started back in 2010 and has years of good info.
