Long Bed Camper on Short Bed

Sent this to Four Wheel Camper (fwc@fourwh.com) but have not recieved a response, so I'll ask here.

On their website in FAQ, they say you can put a long bed camper on a short bed truck, by using the tailgate. Would a FWC Ranger camper fit on a Tacoma or Frontier?

Also I've read about the FWC DVD, how does one go about getting one of these.

some people will put the longer camper on a short bed truck

this seems to work just fine on the full sized trucks

it will also work on the smaller trucks, but the smaller trucks don't have as much payload

I think the Eagle sized would be the best size, weight, and center of balance

But if you do a rear suspension upgrade, you could go with a Ranger Model on a short bed truck

hate to bump a thread like this, and i already know that its not a great idea... set up wise.

but.

how much work, and how bad would it be to put a finch on a shortbed 05+ taco?

would air bags do it? and as for mounting, will the brackets really not work?

i have two reasons for wanting this.

1. the doublecab/short bed combos are more common. and therefore cheaper around here than the long beds...

2. the maneuverablility/handling of the shorts seems more comfortable/easier to drive and park for a DD setup.

so how bad an idea is it? really?

and would some thing like a flip pac be a better idea for a five footer? it looks like you have to drill holes in your hood for those, and i hate that idea!

Tho' I'm no expert on camper setups I'd recommend against too long a camper, rear loading is not a good idea. When I started putting mine together my objective was a rig that would be good offroad within the trucks weight limitations. Unfortunately my S10 is not a true half ton pickup so I had to really compromise. These pics are:

--The way a falcon is supposed to fit (is this a toyota?)

--The way it fits on my truck - I like having room for two propane tanks, a generator and water or gas outside the camper, still keeping the tailgate.

--Falcon dimensions

--A desert camp

I ended up getting air bags but am happy with the ease of use. After many trips to the nearby DOT scale my CG is perfect with full load of camping gear and I'm only 20 lbs over the manufacturers max GVW.

that first one of the dodge is pretty good!

the photo gallery for the falcon on FWCs site doesnt seem to work, but i downloaded the PDF spec sheet.

now how much harder is a falcon going to be to find (used) than a finch?

and do those ten extra inches really add that much leverage?

and now im wondering, would i be able to close the tailgate with a falcon!?

also, if i could find a dodge dakota quad cab, that wasnt trashed, it would probably be a little cheaper than the Tacoma!
