Planing to enter of west side an head east. Reading zzyzx is closed an wondering if afton road would be a good entrance?? Or WHERE WOULD YOU ENTER??? Would like to go from being to end .

So another question. I bought n.g. Mojave map figure it would good to have a paper map. So where the heck is afton canyon?. Sure as heck its NOT on my map. read about it seen pictures of it .

Get the MOJAVE ROAD GUIDE by Dennis Casebier it will give you all directions and history.
Afton Canyon is a marked exit off I-15 and Peggy Sue"s is an old time diner a couple miles out of Barstow.

We consider it a mandatory stop if we're nearby near lunch or dinner time.

My suggestion is to go during the week. On the weekends if the weather is good you'll run into wannabee desert racer types "pre-running" the Road in everything from UTV's to 4 seat "Class 1" clones with 400+HP. Had one of the latter ride my tush for several miles before the mail box, where there is little opportunity to move over and he was being enough of a jerk about it that I wasn't going to risk my vehicle just so he could go fast.

Also, in my three trips over the Mojave Rd. I've always run it East to West and that has been the direction of travel for 95+% of the traffic that I've encountered. There is no rule that says that you have to run it in this direction, just know that you'll likely be running "against the grain" as it were.

geeee!guess I shouldn't of read that book! he tells me in it not SUPPOSE to run it by ourself!!! so????? have any one you solo that road????

All the books/guides are going to recommend against going solo. Heck, I'll tell you its not safe to go solo (and then go right ahead and go solo myself) its a kind of a cya thing. Just started reading the book last night. I'd prefer to run it in a group but I'd probably go solo if I had to. Just a matter of understanding the risks.

if this isn't allowed remove it thanks!! so my first book arrived totally ruined by Post office! so I contacted the seller " dusastore" ON eBay an they sent me a new book!so if your wondering WHERE to buy, these folks are awesome!!
