Here's interesting competitor to the Inreach and Zoleo satellite messengers. It's less expensive but there are significant functionality differences to consider.

On the plus side, it apparently sends messages quicker than an Inreach (even though it uses the geostationary satellite constellation rather than the Lower Earth Orbit one)

But I don't think I'd like losing the ability to send messages to email addresses. And I don't think I'd like that message recipients have to download the app and set up an account in order to reply to a message.

I hope they get the bugs worked out. Much better price overall for someone who uses this stuff sparingly. I really don't like the inreach that I have - it seems ok if you have a phone to pair with it, but using the built-in buttons on the inreach sucks.

I saw it in REI. Their display aid doesn’t work in Alaska and Canada
