Many things are great about living in a small town, like yesterday. Late afternoon I drove over to the post office to pick up our mail that was on vacation hold. Bob was behind the counter, his back to me. I like to think Bob has his finger on the pulse of our community. He knows everybody by first name. Bob was sorting large envelopes. He knew I was there. "Well you've been gone so long we had to send all your mail back."
"Sure you did," I deadpanned.
I was expecting him to say something like, " Don't you keep that swiss army knife sharp enough to shave with?"
He went into the back and brought out my mail.
"Now just bring me back the post office plastic bin. Don't try to return any mail you don't like. We don't take anything back."

We were back home, the Lady and me. Eighteen nights spent in our camper. We stood on high places. We walked in canyon bottoms. We saw wapiti, black bear, bighorn, pronghorn, mule deer, bison, marmots, and pikas; lots of birds. We met family and friends including a WTW buddy. We ventured in the lands of the ancient ones, endured a city big enough to have signal lights, and had an impromptu All Terrain Camper rally. We traveled many times in 4x4 low range. We spent time along the maggot superhighway. We also found the quiet, solitude, and peace we search for. We saw many new places, a couple of times by jointly saying, "Let's go there!" It was the kind of trip that we wish could go on forever.........

This is a place holder for when the story unfolds, the photos are edited, and all that typing gets done. Might take a bit of time. Lots of chores to get caught up on and I got to get through that tub of mail and figure out a way of getting some of it back to Bob.

Your trip reports are one of the things I look forward to most. Even the ones from quick weekend getaways in your neighborhood are a joy to read. 18 nights! This is going to be good.

BTW, I had to look up wapiti. Is that another name for an elk or is there a difference? Like bison and buffalo.

Afternoon Ted, I was always told growing up that antelope, elk, and buffalo were common names used colloquially and that these North American species didn't proper fit into these families. The proper names were pronghorn, wapiti, and bison.

Well Ski,looking forward to the trip report.I am going to take a guess that by the animal sighting list you may have been through Yellowstone.
18 nights out that's a great vacation.
Hope to see loads of animal pictures.

Wapiti in Colorado, black bear in Colorado, bighorn in Utah, pronghorn in Nevada, mule deer everywhere, bison in Utah, marmots and pikas in Nevada and Colorado.

More TR's please, remember usen retired folk need new places to go-our minds get sort of lost sometimes and we need direction! Any "Big Foot" sightings yet, anyway, just remember, drive, hike and enjoy that world out there, that's why we need your young folks, to remind us old folgies where to go-just kidding, so much to see and so little time  , catch you guys out and about some time! :D

Smoke and "Bob" the border collie!

We call 'em the "big paws". Nothing on them in the coming trip story but we do have a couple of stories that will be woven in at some time. "Young folks", Smoke, that one made us chuckle. Thanks.

Shoot, this feels like the movie has been announced and the trailer released but we have got to wait until later to see the full show. Count me as also patiently looking forward to the report.

Too bad it was too dark to get a good photo. That was one interesting rabbit that sure liked you. The Lady has named it, "Stew's Rabbit."

Great so far.We are waiting with "worms on out tongues",for the continuation of many parts. Is this part 1 of 18?
Shar and I were wondering about how we would do our yoga out and about.Looks like the camp table works fine.

Thanks
Frank
