Water line valve directions

I know nothing..so I went to sanitize water system today an had one valve in line an water heater line at a 90 degree. When priming the system i got zero flow from hot water sink side. I thought to use hot water that valve needed to be at a 90 angle am I wrong.? When its straight inline I get water flow. Help me please. Leaving in 4 days

Oh well guess I did just the opposite of what I was suppose to do. Top valve inline an bottom at a 90 degree. Thanks for looking at my foolish post..God bless u all
