Last week while camping at Clear Lake, I realized I could take 20 east and cut down through Grass Valley en route to Reno. Wait a minute that XP Camper place is right in Grass Valley, maybe I can stop in and check this place out. I had just read something on Wander the west that Marc was designing another prototype this time for smaller Tacoma sized trucks which might in fact work for my Tundra. A quick call and I was scheduled in for Sunday with a, “stop on by anytime Sunday.” As I drove home tired after four days of struggling to catch timid males and deeper females I almost didn’t make the stop, I’m so glad I did.
First I had a tour of the full size XP Camper and it’s beautiful. As marc was explaining things I had to pay close attention otherwise I found myself drifting off in thought on how I can get this camper and imagining myself in some remote jungle snug as a bug. Marc happily took me through the entire camper explaining everything to me with no question being unanswered and showing me things I didn’t think to ask about. One thing I love about the inside is its entire composite and stainless interior. I imagine you could have a tomato fight inside and with a quick wipe of a warm wash cloth everything would be back in spic and span condition. I can’t get this camper though, I have a 2005 Toyota Tundra and my little truck couldn’t handle this rig, and I can’t by a new rig AND new camper so Marc took me to the Prototype.
That’s right folks I have seen the prototype for the Tacoma’s! For you folks that are thinking about this prototype your imagination might not take you far enough! With the same carbon and stainless interior and exterior plus the double pane hard windows and roomy inside seating it is everything I want! The model isn’t that far along yet with these said windows and carbon but I can picture it. Oh and popping up the camper was a breeze, a man or woman in their 70’s could easily handle the operation.
So here I am, thinking how I am going to by this camper. What can I sell, can I find extra work somewhere, and will I live simply for the next eight months? These are all thought going through my head, we shall see...

Photo is Marc next to one of his XP campers. Thanks for the tour!

James,

Glad to hear your enthusiasm about the new campers. I have also seen them and am excited about their possibilities. I especially like the fact that it is completely hard walled. It will be so much better insulated than our current camper.

I believe the camper in your photo is Simimike's new pride and joy. He should be sporting it on his truck any day now.

Another visit to XP camper!

I just happened to drop by on my way home from work and found Marc and his partner hard at work putting the finishing touches on their latest project. Wow.

I was able to get the tour and check out the interior:

I believe this fine machine with most excellent accommodations is heading to southern California. Lucky guy!

I was able to track down Susan and got her inside to take a look too. What a contrast to our lil' but most capable Hawk. :)

You beat me to it. I just got home this evening and hadn't had a chance to do a photo shoot of my new XPCamper. Thanks for posting these photos, I don't have the best photo posting skills. I'm super excited about my new camper and am looking forward to many happy trails.
While at the XP shop I had a chance to check out the V2. This will raise the bar on 1/2 ton truck campers. I think other manufacturers will have to do a lot of catching up to match this.

Congrats Mike. I tried to wipe up the drool before I left. :)

I was wondering what that was.
From now on we only let people enter in full hazmat suits to prevent contamination. :p
