Covering an Alaskan Camper during off season

Hi everyone
Have acquired recently a mint 1995 10' CO that was stored under a carport since new. I don't have that luxury at my home. Is an RV tarp type cover necessary with Alaskan's one piece top during winter non-use?
Thanks
Kevin

If it is outside I would say cover it. My FWC is stored outside and I cover it with a heavy duty tarp during the winter or for extended periods of time between trips. Not only do you have rain to worry about, but exposure to sun, will result in UV damage to sealants and other components. For $30 you can have piece of mind. My 2 cents. jd

I would definitely cover it, I don't intend to leave my new rebuild exposed to the elements unless I'm in it :)

like has been said....COVER IT....It'll take an extra long tarp to get over the CO but well worth it....and it'll need to be replaced each year.
I priced a waterproof, well made cover for my NCO....I wanted it done a special way.....after the first quote...I bought a silver tarp

every year I purchase several costco tarps...heavier than the HF variety

If you have the Jack loops from Reico's...a rope laces nicely along each side and through the loops and ties to the jack brackets

thanks everyone for the advice, I will try Costco for the tarp and tie it to my jack mounts. I keep my roof vent partially open so I need to monitor this and make sure the tarp doesn't inhibit the air flow. I am also thinking of getting the UV tire covers for my new Goodyear truck tires.

If you're not going to use it over the winter...you might consider a small heater (old resistance 100 or 60 watt bulb...to keep things dry over winter
There are dehumid tools available...piano equipment....small enough... but big enough to make a difference

Rusty, if you don't mind me asking, how much did they want for a custom cover? I have been thinking about getting one made?

over 1K for the one I wanted made....you might be able to get one made cheaper...but I wanted it for a traveling cover as well.....with heavy plastic windows, snaps....to match my boat cover....I get tired of cleaning all the bugs off the front window and all the tiny grooves....especially during the summer in the midwest. for the time being I'll wash the camper

I was going to have it made of waterproof sunbrella material with uv resistant thread....get it to last a bit longer

and that's a California price also....

Rusty-I will get some quotes in the spring, I too want mine to be usable when traveling
Thanks for the reply

I favor the big silver tarp. It may not be lovely but it goes through some rough storms every winter, and it's easy to replace. And when it's tied down, I know it's secure.

Thanks, but we have chosen to go "tarpless"-
Mrs. Rubbachicken needs to be happy-
anyone out there bought a cover?

I am waiting on collecting my camper to take exact measurements so have not bought a cover yet, but plan to.

Meanwhile, I've been looking at these:

No review or opinion of them other than what they say on the website. I do notice that they say "Made in North America" which is not necessarily Made in the USA. Flyboykev's Empire covers are apparently made in USA.

Nothing against tarps, but I live in a VERY windy area so would prefer a more form-fitting product.

I purchased a boat cover from National that I ended up sending back after a month. Heavy duty material but the stitching holes were huge and let in a lot of water. We get a lot of rain and moisture here in Kodiak though, so it may not be a huge issue if you’re in an area with less moisture or just looking for wind protection.

When is your pickup date for the camper?

That is valuable feedback re: the size of the stitching holes. Coastal Oregon is wet, damp, and windy so looking for something that can handle all of that, plus seasonally strong sun and lots of fir needles and tree pitch. (Yer basic nightmare...). I'd love to build a real enclosure/carport of some kind, but space is tight and it would need to be robust (I've watched my large wooden doghouse and full-sized trex lounge chairs shoot across the deck in big storms-!!)

ATC Camper expected to be completed in late Aug/early Sept. Can't wait:)

I’m gunna toss out my 2¢ worth. Do what ever you can, to get your campers under cover. The big wet is not kind. You might think about a dehumidifier.
