RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West front loading vs top loading

I've had these same problems with my Truckfridge 130. 1. To keep the door shut on the trail I added a household security latch I got at OSH. 2. To keep the shelves in place I just bent the wire frame to make them a tighter fit in the notches. My shelves also have doors that open to allow...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Who has the right of way?

I think that one of the reasons for uphill traffic right away was that the drum brakes used at the time weren't as effective in reverse. For me I usually follow Craig's reasoning and go with the easiest spot to get out of the way. There's always the lug nut rule. The one with the most lug nuts...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West I need to hear a good new joke

During his annual physical examination, a doctor asked a retired man about his physical activity level. The man said he spent 3 days a week, every week in the outdoors. "Well, yesterday afternoon was typical; I took a five hour walk about 7 miles through some pretty rough terrain. I waded...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tire Sidewall Ratings

One of the reasons Iv'e been running BFG's is because of the 3 ply sidewall they have. I run them on both my truck and Jeep and have never had a sidewall issue. The sidewalls on my Jeep wear out before the tread but I haven't cut one yet. The downside of a stiff sidewall is that they don't air...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Mojave Rd, Mojave desert, CA

I did that run last year in a Dodge quad cab long bed with a FWC Grandby. There were a few tight sections for a large truck but it's doable. On my trip in april the weather ranged from 102* at the river to rain at Piute Creek and snow at higher elevations - and always the WIND. Get Dennis...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Help with wiring Grandby to Tundra

I'm not sure if the shell model with the battery option has a battery separator or not. If it does all you need is the female receptacle and a 30 amp circuit breaker located near the truck battery. If you don't have a separator then you should get one or put in some sort of switch to disconnect...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West A Lift / leveling kit question

If the truck manufacturers could increase payload capacity by just adding some air bags don't you think they would do it. Capacity is more involved than just keeping the bumper from dragging. Imagine how sparse this site would be without air bag / suspension threads.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How not to use a tow strap.

I've cut a couple of straps trying to help out people who don't have proper attach points. Not only being costly it's dangerous. Now if they don't have a strong attach point I just wish them luck and help them out in some other way.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West post a *PIC* of your latest purchase (can be anything as long as it is for your camper)

I saw one of those in action this summer and it worked great. The guy using it owns a towing company and has put them in all his trucks. He says it's easier and faster than the old jumper cable method. I'm not sure if it was the same brand but it was the same technology.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Hot Water Heater - User Manual - Draining and Winterizing

When flushing the tank it's easier to insert a water filler spout in the drain hole and blasting it with water a couple of times. If you don't get the crud that flakes off the anode out it can plug up your faucet.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West New ATC Ocelot Shell Buildout

I've never measured the expansion on my tank but I know it does get taller. In my Grandby the tank is in a cabinet at the front of the camper. When the tank is full the cabinet lid lifts about an inch. As soon as I use a little water the lid goes back down.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West How to retrieve that 6 gallons in the hot water heater?

This is not true with all FWC campers. My '06 Grandby doesn't have manual valves in the hot water tank circuit. It does have a check valve between the pump and water heater. I'm not sure what year they made the change.

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Winterized FWC

Being a fair weather socal camper I try to avoid the situations being discussed here but there are times when it does get cold. On a recent trip it got down into the 20's overnight and I was concerned about things freezing. I normally don't run the heater overnight. So my question for anyone...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Tacoma Tires

I believe larger wheels may be great on a Porsche but not a good idea on a truck that may see a rough road. The larger rim means a lower stiffer sidewall which is great for cornering but sucks on most trails or rough roads. The bigger the sidewall you have the better the tire will air down for...

RV LIFE Forum Hub, Wander The West Canoe or kayak on FWC

I use the mako / hully roller combination and it works for me. My truck is high enough that it would be difficult to slide the boats on without the hully rollers. I also have a 3rd cross bar at the very back to keep the boats from sliding over the edge of the camper roof. I did have a strap come...
